My 1 month baby boy has bilirubin range 11.50 mg/dll. I'm worried about him. Plz suggest me what to do.
It depends: If your baby is full term and healthy, that is not a dangerous level at all. Prolonged jaundice (>2 wks) may be due to breast milk jaundice, which can take several weeks to clear completely. It is not dangerous, but should be followed by your doctor. ...Read more
Bilirubin is the potentially toxic product of heme metabolism. It is formed by breakdown of heme present in hemoglobin, myoglobin, cytochromes, catalase, peroxidase and tryptophan pyrrolase. Eighty percent of the daily bilirubin production comes from hemoglobin. It requires conversion to a water-soluble form before elimination from the body by ...Read more
Whoa: Dehydration doesn't raise bilirubin. If this is an isolated finding, it may be normal or you may have mild Gilbert's. It's good to drink water so that your urine is light rather than dark, but there's no fixed amount. Please get back with your physician for a better exlpanation or get a consult. ...Read more
My total bilirubin usually ranges from 1.1 to 1.8, with no pattern. Last test showed 2.3, all other results normal. Could this indicate a problem?
Total bilirubin been range = 1.4-2.4 for about a year, direct = 0.4-0.7. Everything else normal. Ultrasound normal. Is this probably Gilbert's?
Probably: Most likely Gilberts if everything else is fine and no symptoms or signs ...Read more
For two years indirect bilirubin has ranged from (.9-1.7) direct from (.1-.4). Dr said gilbert's. Normal liver enzymes and u/s. Gilbert's?
Probably: Especially if you can relate the higher levels to times when you may not have been eating so much. I trust there's no evidence that anything else is wrong. ...Read more
Albumin in range, total n direct bilirubin in range, alk phos-in range, globulin 2.4, ag ratio 1.63 but AST and ALT -262 n 213. Pl advice?
Ongoing injury: The transaminases (ast and alt) are quite high indicating some of your liver cells are injured and leaking contents into the bloodstream. I'm glad your other labs are in range. This may be acceptable given your underlying chronic hepatitis, or it may be a guide to management now or in the future. ...Read more
Yellow stools, sometimes loose/watery. Bilirubin in range, amylase & lipase normal and alkaline phosphatase in range. Ultrasound shows normal g/bladder and main ducts. Liver normal. No jaundice,?
A 15-year-old boy's total bilirubin is 0.8 and direct bilirubin 0.4. The total bilirubin is in range but direct bilirubin is slightly out of our lab range [0-0.3]. What might be the possible causes?

Hepc, cirohisis, last monthreport ast/alt veryhigh, bilirubin, albumin-abnormal range. Thismonth report ast/alt, bilirubin, albumin all normal. Isit posble?
Yes: If I understand correctly, you have known hepatitis c that has progressed to cirrhosis, had an abnormal ast/alt, bilirubin high, Albumin low last month, and all are normal this month. Will assume lab did not switch sample. Hepatitis c is a chaotic disease prone to exacerbate / remit & some medication may be the actual cause of last month's problem. How do you feel? Rx you, not the numbers! ...Read more
Is it possible to get entire body itching from liver problems, but have no signs of jaundice.? Bilirubin within normal ranges.
How can you always have crp-10. Ers-5 both bottom of ref range. Bilirubin direct-1.00. Yet have horrific nerve and bone pain, even in skull, c-t-l spine?
My liver enzymes were sgot 47 n sgpt 67. Total bilirubin was within range. I quit drinking and did liver cleanse. Now 36 n 47 but bilirubin 1.8 whatup?
Hard to say: That bilirubin is borderline, and would need to know the breakdown (how much is direct and how much indirect bilibrubin) to make sense out of it. Those liver enzymes are very borderline, and should lead to testing for viral hepatitis. Since you quit drinking, the enzymes are normal, indicating that alcohol may have been responsible. I would repeat and fractionate the bilirubin. ...Read more

Probably okay.: This set of results may be a sign of what is called Gilbert's syndrome, which is not a significant problem, although one would need to see the rest of the liver tests to have a better idea of what is really going on. I would ask your primary doctor to interpret them for you. Good luck. ...Read more
Can Lipitor 10 mg 3x a week increase bilirubin level. When stop taking Lipitor bilirubin level is within normal range
Unusual: In medicine, we never say "impossible." Typically, statins don't raise bilirubin. Yes for SGOT, SGPT, and CPK in the susceptible. The key is to do "provocation." Go on the medicine and see a rise, go off the medicine & see a fall, go back on/see a rise again, go back off & see the fall again. At the same time the above tests should also be ordered. I am available for consultation. HRS, MD ...Read more
Few years ago I felt in a blood test report that the bilirubin was slightly above the normal range. In the latest test it is 1.9 mg/dl. Pls comment.
I'm not worried: Several percent of humankind have Gilbert's, a non-disease with somewhat elevated bilirubin. If you've skipped a few meals in a row and noticed your eyes got a bit yellow when viewed in sunlight, that's you. Or you might be tearing up red blood cells from a mild hemoglobin problem or from exercise. If you seem healthy otherwise, don't worry about it. ...Read more

Is 0.2 a normal direct bilirubin? My lab used to use 0-0.4, now it's 0-0.2. Mine has been 0.2 for years, but total bill is 1.5. All else in range.

What Cholestrol lowering drugs which do not affect liver. Even taking 5 mg alternate day my bilirubin level goes up by 1 point from the normal range?
Non statin drugs:
The "statin" drugs will all be metabolized in a similar way in the liver. Drugs like ezetimibe will be possible alternatives but have less robust data with respect to preventing cardiovascular events.
If you are on cholesterol medication at the age of 17, you may have FH and as such could also be a candidate for PCSK9 inhibitors. I'd discuss it with your doctor. ...Read more
Had lft and my bilirubin is 1.7 and range is 0.2 – 1.1 and in my urine protein traces are found, why is this so?
Big picture: Several percent of humankind run a bilirubin in this range because of gilbert's non-disease; the bilirubin is almost all indirect. If you've had previous chemical profiles and this has been present; it's probably gilbert's, otherwise you'll get a workup, perhaps some meds you are taking. Trace protein in the urine is generally of no concern. ...Read more
Direct bilirubin is 0.3 (rangeis 0-0.2), globulin-3.6 (range is 2.3-3.5) a/g ratio is 1.19 (range-120-2). Cbc is normal. Plz advise
Get with your doctor: The only concern I have here is the slight elevation in direct bilirubin. I'm also going to assume it's new; some folks always run it at this level because of their biology. It won't hurt you but may be a warning, most likely that some medication giving you cholestasis. ...Read more
What do these bilirubin results mean? Value 0.2 range 0.3-1.2 MG/DL. My daughter has been seen for severe constipation and wetting.
AST (SGOT) is 2494 U/L (normal range is <50); ALT(SGPT) is 2363 U/L (normal range is <50) and Bilirubin total is 4.51 mg/dl. How serious is he?
It depends: How does he FEEL? If this is simply acute hepatitis from a virus or a medication, he may end up fine. If it is from alcohol, then he is in serious danger -- if he recovers, there's still the behavior that caused this in the first place, itself deadly serious. If he is systemically sick and this is "shock liver", the treatment is that of the underlying illness. ...Read more
My ALP recently was 128, marked as high. The top end of the range given was 117. Bilirubin was normal at 1, ALT 33, and AST 26. Is the ALP a concern?
Your ALP is just above normal. About 2.5% of normal people will have a value just above normal.
