This organ plays a major role in metabolism and has a number of functions in the body, including glycogen storage, decomposition of red blood cells, plasma protein synthesis, hormone production, and detoxification. It lies below the diaphragm in the abdominal-pelvic region of the abdomen. It produces bile, an alkaline compound which aids in digestion via the emulsification of ...Read more
If my levels of bilirubin and urobilinogen in urine is normal, does this indicate a healthy liver? I'm having routine liver enzyme tests and nervous.
Liver enzymes: While it is encouraging that these urinary tests are normal, they are not enough to ensure that your liver is healthy by themselves. If your doctor recommended routine screening tests of your liver, the blood tests are the only way to go. I would not worry; the vast majority of the people having a routine screening have completely normal liver tests. Good luck. ...Read more
Would regular two month blood donation affect bilirubin, albumin and other liver function bloodwork? wouldnt the blood loss skew the LFT numbers?
Chronic elevated alkaline phosphatase. GGT normal, other blood test negative. Liver ultrasound clear. My doctors said it is a mystery of elevated AP.
Not necessarily live: Alk. Phos. can be elevated in liver disease, but the enzyme is found in other organs, including bone, biliary tract ( gall bladder), intestine and, interesting, the placenta! Certain medications can also cause an elevation. At the very least, a gallbladder ultrasound, a measurement of parathyroid hormone, calcium & phosphate levels and a review of your meds should be done. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Would Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) affect my liver enzyme levels? Alt is elevated in blood work. Did urine sample and urobillinogen was normal. What would cause this?
3 urine test within couple months and blood in my urine my rbc urine level is 1 have had bence jones labs done that also detected some levels in urine?
Bence jones protein: BJ proteins if seen in urine, probably need further evaluation with a hematologist (blood specialist) who will order more tests, usually blood tests. Based on their assessment plus a complete history, interview and physical exam they will be able to tell you if it needs treatment immediately or whether you can continue watching it for awhile. ...Read more
Is it normal to show no white blood cells in a urine test when showing high levels of nitrates in urine test?
My blood and urine test result are worrying me. it shows high Uric acid levels and traces of blood in urine.
See below: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, uric acid levels in urine are not meaningful, it is the blood level that counts. A few red cells in urine are not abnormal, and trace may be the same. It would be prudent to discuss the issue with your doctor who ordered the tests. ...Read more
Blood test fine except high creatinine & bilirubin. Urine dipstick shows bilirubin, ketones, proteins, high sg and blood. Ct no stones in kidn or galb?
Thick blood , high inflammation levels abnormal liver function in all 3 blood tests, test back pos for blood clot on lung after dye test, back neg?
This is serious: I trust the dye test was a pulmonary angiogram that demonstrated a pulmonary thromboembolus, and it has also been determined that you have hypercoagulable blood. This is a major problem that will require work with your primary care physician and probably long-term medical management -- more than healthtap can do. Hope you do not smoke. The "inflammation" & liver labs need to be addressed in time. ...Read more
On today's blood test, hemolysis and lipemia were 'NEGATIVE" but ICTERUS 1+. What could this (icterus 1+) mean? CBC normal, bilirubin normal (13).
Any symptoms?: Why were these tests done? All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, it does not seem to be a serious issue, however the elevated AST may be due to alcohol, medications you may taking or if you are overweight. Discuss it with your doctor. ...Read more
Blood test results showed elevated liver enzymes and elevated kidney function. What does this mean?
Need for evaluation: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking a history, physical examination, looking at the actual lab results and may be additional studies. Lab results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is in the best position to do that. ...Read more

Urine test protein 2+ for the past 2 visits. Blood test creatinine etc kidney function is ok. What causes protein in urine?
Several causes: Your physician would do well to rule out orthostatic protenuria, the most common cause and utterly harmless. It's ruled out, then begin a workup. There are a host of causes. ...Read more
Husband has liver disease. AST, ALT blood work is normal. since these tests check for liver disease is it odd that the blood work is normal?
No, that's common: You list alcoholic hepatitis as a diagnosis. If Hubby has recovered from alcoholic hepatitis, then the AST and ALT will be normal again. There may be scarring (cirrhosis, even) but if he's sobered up, the enzymes will be normal anyway. Anybody can raise their enzymes by being drunk for a few days without actual liver disease worth diagnosis. Glad he's better; hope he thanks you. ...Read more
Blood cortisol: Blood cortisol varies considerably throughout the day, and with other conditions. Usually it varies between about 5 and 25. A blood cortisol of 665 is so high i suspect it is a mistake, or a misinterpretation, or different units are used, or it was not done in a reputable lab, or something. Why was it measured? If you do not have symptoms of adrenal failure or excess, there is no need to test. ...Read more
