Get it checked...: Any painful lump or mass should be evaluated. It may be related to your previous trauma or possibly be in the same area but have nothing to do with it. Inflammation: Swelling denotes inflammation. X-rays being negative means no fracture and you are too young to have osteoarthritis. The inflammation could be tendonitis, bursitis, or some type of inflammatory arthritis depending on where the swelling is located. Based : Based on your description, it's unlikely that you had a bony or joint injury to your elbow. You may have strained the tendons on the "outside" or lateral side of your elbow. In general, initial treatments with ice, anti-inflammatories (i.e. Ibuprofen), and gentle range of motion may be beneficial. I would not recommend immobilizing the elbow for an extended period of time. If it continues to bother you after several weeks, i would have it checked out. Your physician will determine if an x-ray would be necessary after an examination. ...Read more

Depends: You probably need an exam but if it hurts while doing a twisting motion with your arm, it could be "tennis elbow." If you can't move it at all, you may have torn something as well. ...Read more
