I'm diebetic been a big drinker but I stop I have liver failure don't no the stage what are the symptoms if im starting kidney failure is there pain

Hard to say: Kidney failure only occurs in the very last stages of very severe liver failure, and most people will have ascites (fluid accumulating in the abdominal cavity) and edema (swollen legs and elsewhere) before that occurs. Improvement of the liver disease, which should happen if you completely stop drinking, should help considerably. There is no pain generally, lab tests are needed to follow it. ...Read more

Don't give up, man!!: The questions I hear you asking is, "can I perhaps survive this after all? " you're read, correctly, that when liver failure becomes so severe that it causes the lungs or kidneys to fail, recovery is unlikely. If you are writing this from your home, and fairly comfortable, your kidneys have not failed. A sober, compliant diabetic's liver can heal and work well for him for decades. Be strong, man. ...Read more

Freaking out. I'm a 25 year old non-drinker with an enlarged liver. What's going on?

Fatty Liver: The most common cause is fatty liver disease. This is particularly common in people who are diabetic, have elevated cholesterol or triglycerides, and are overweight. If the liver enzymes are normal, it is most likely benign fat. However, if the liver enzymes are elevated, it means that there is inflammation in the liver which can lead to injury. Talk with your doctor about next steps. ...Read more

What to do if I am a pretty heavy drinker who was recently diagnosed with liver damage.?

Be tough: You're going to have to stop. Most people like you need the support of others who want you to be successful, and to have something bigger than yourself ("a higher something", if you like) to make it possible and worthwhile. I'm a pathologist. Death from alcoholic liver disease is godawful. If you care for those who love, or once loved, you, spare them from this terrible experience. ...Read more

Why do I have fat around my liver? This is news to me that I have this. And I am not an alcoholic or regular drinker (i hear there's a link).

Fatty liver risks: Fatty liver is incredibly common, predominantly due to: high alcohol intake, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity. The more of these risks you have, the greater the chance of fatty liver. Addressing these risks is an important step to correcting fatty liver. Distinguish hepatosteatosis (fatty liver) from NASH/steatohepatitis (fatty liver + abnormal liver tests that risks cirrhosis & liver cancer). ...Read more

How long does it take to heal liver if u were heavy drinker for 10 years. Enzymes were high once and normal the next time but start to feel bad again?

Alcoholic hepatitis: As long as you do not have cirrhosis, the liver does a remarkable job of healing itself. Avoid hepatotoxins such as tylenol (acetaminophen) and of course any alcohol. Milk thistle is often beneficial as a dietary supplement. If your enzymes remain elevated, get tested for viral hepatitis and autoimmune hepatitis. ...Read more

Liver pain.: Yes, problems with your liver can cause pain - stretching of the capsule surrounding the liver from inflammation is an example. Liver hemangiomas (can also cause pain, but many of them cause no symptoms. In cases where the pain is directly attributable to the hemangioma, surgical removal can be considered. They're definitely not a common cause of liver failure, however. ...Read more

Autoimmune hepatitis: We are not yet aware of the cause of autoimmune hepatitis. It's manifested by autoantibodies against the liver, manufactured by your own immune system. It can be a very aggressive disease, but often is very slow in its onset and its progression. Also, it is treatable, although some of the medicines can have side effects. Heavy drinker for 8mths sudden sharp upper right abdo pain under chest I think liver. All test clear, pain ongoing for 7 months. Will it get better?

Depends: Whether it will get better depends on what is causing the pain. If it has been going on for seven months, you need to go back to see your doctor or a gastroenterologist to help sort it out. You may need blood tests, x-rays, or ultrasounds to help with the diagnosis, if they have not already been done. Good luck. ...Read more

Taking Tylenol regularity but never more than the recommended dose for last few weeks. Social drinker. I'm worried about l have liver damage. Symptoms?

See your doctor.: Initially, there are no symptoms to the kind of damage that Tylenol can do to the liver. Although you are likely to have not done any damage to the liver if you followed the directions, it would be prudent to get some blood drawn to be sure. It is a simple blood test. If you are worried, I would try to limit Tylenol and avoid alcohol until you have the blood test. Good luck. ...Read more
