What to do if I am antibiotic shot an option/possibility, if so, what antibiotic, bicillin, rocephin (ceftriaxone)?
Seldom used: When we used this years ago we used the CR to give enough quick acting to start the healing backed up with the long acting to maintain an antibiotic level for 10 days. The LA doesn't. Few patients were interested in the 2 large shots, one in each leg, that it takes to treat the average adult or older kid. Oral meds are as effective and better accepted. ...Read more
Less than optimal: The blood flow through the fat is slower and less predictable than through muscle. However, the medicine will eventually leak out into your blood over time and suppress strep activity. ...Read more
Depends: Most would consider a patient contagious for a period of 24 hrs after the start of therapy. This would include the shot. After that time, spread is much less likely except with intimate contact. ...Read more

Asking my doc if we can try bicillin shots instead of rocephin by iv for late Lyme. Can that be just as good?
Can Bicillin L A injection make me drowsy, lightheaded and make my lower back, butt, and leg sore?
Jarisch-Herxheimer?: Benzathine penicillin (Bicillin LA) can cause injection site (buttock) soreness, maybe felt in leg and back on the same side. Bicillin itself won't make you drowsy or lightheaded, but treatment of syphilis (almost the only thing treated with Bicillin) can cause fever, muscle aches, and maybe these symptoms in the first 24 hours ("Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction"). Discuss with the doctor treating you. ...Read more
My 6yr old daughter got a bicillin shot yesterday for strep throat. Does she need to take any followup medicine or is the shot the only treatment?
I had strep throat 10 days ago. Went to doc was given a penicillin shot think bicillin felt better 2 days later but still have small pus on tonsils? ?
Strep throat: Even though you have been treated the pus is signed of dead cells and as long as the rest of the symptoms are resolving or completely resolved does not mean the infection is not better. I would wait a couple of days and if every other symptoms is resolved this should go away soon. If the symptoms are the same or worse you might need an alternative antibiotic. ...Read more
I have strep throat, doctor gave me an injection of bicillin la (benzathine penicillin). And four prescriped penicilin antibiotics. Was wondering what were the side effects?
I was diagnosed. Yesterday with strep throat. They gave me a shot of bicilon how long does it take to kick in and the fever will go away?
Typically 48 hours.: Bicillin injection is convenient, but rather painful and expensive way to treat strep. In most cases, the good old penicillin is the #1 recommended treatment for strep infection. Oral formualtion is much cheaper. Typically, you should see improvement from strep (if the bug is sensitive to it) quite rapidly, often within 48 hours. If by tomorrow n u r not better, consult doc. Good luck. ...Read more

Problem: That can really be a problem and wear you out. The known most effective treatments are a drug called thorazine (chlorpromazine) and also nitrous-oxide gas. Simple if you have a really good relationship with your dentist. See if he will let you get on the nitrous unit for about 10 minutes. If not, then oral or injection thorazine (chlorpromazine) requires a doctor visit. Some emergency rooms will use nitrous. ...Read more

Is Paxil (paroxetine) cr a safe drug to take for dep/anxiety? There's so much negative press on it...
Paxil (paroxetine) CR: It is used w good results by many. I think that 1 issue that brings it negative press can be a discontinuation syndrome that can occur when it is stopped (especially if cold turkey). Althought this can occur w other ssri meds, it can be fairly dramatic w paxil (paroxetine). I do find that some other ssri's tend to have fewer side effects but there is a potential for side effects w any medication. Take care. ...Read more
Can I take cymbalta and paxil (paroxetine) cr together? Will anyone of these drugs cause the other to not work or possibly lower its effect?
Not sure about less?: If you are taking drugs for a chronic condition like heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, then this a difficult question. If you are concerned about how many pills you are taking in a day, maybe combinations or long acting drugs can reduce the number. Either way, this is to be discussed with your physician since these alternatives are not for everyone. Good luck. ...Read more

Avoid NSAID's if pregnant or allergic to them. In that situation can consider acetaminophen. ...Read more
