High weight low reps: Muscle bulk is generally built by doing higher weights and low reps in an eccentric fashion. Toning is achieved with low weight and high reps. For muscle building try the following: start with a comfortable but challenging weight and do 10 reps in an eccentric fashion. What that means for biceps is to let the weight down slowly as your elbow extends. Increase weight by 5lbs, and do 8reps eccentrically.
