Doctor insights on:
I have BFS (twitching in calves). I wake up with a swollen feeling in legs daily, but moving will loosen; but always tired feeling in the legs. BFS?
The symptoms of BFS: Are more noticeable at rest than with activity. Unless you have actual swelling of your legs, BFS is likely the cause of abnormal sensations (paraesthysias) like you describe. BFS can also cause muscle weakness and generalized fatigue. It's commonly associated with anxiety. I hope you've seen a doctor to rule out other causes of your systems & discuss potential treatment. Dr. Anne. ...Read more

Beentoa alsdocclean exam emg/ncv good. He said bfs for twitching but is it normal to get up and walk a little and soon as irest calves start twitching?
Exercise Tolerance: Not sure what an ALS doctor is. But, muscles that twitch are usually muscles that are out of shape and have no exercise tolerance or the limit of the muscle's tolerance has been reached. Perhaps an exercise program is warranted? A physical therapy intervention? A circulatory evaluation at a vascular specialists? ...Read more

Twitching bodywide 16 months. EMG clean (only fascias) at 12 months. Clean clinical at 15 months. Told BFS by neuro at 15 months. Can it still be ALS?
It's always possible: It is impossible to 'exclude' a diagnosis - and even if you don't have ALS now you could still start to develop it next week. Having said that, if you have not developed any muscle weakness after 16 months then it is very unlikely that the fasciculations are a manifestation of ALS - your neurologist's suggestion of it being cramp fasciculation syndrome is much more likely. ...Read more
Is there a way to decrease twitching and tremors caused by BFS? I have tried minerals, vitamins and decreased physical activity but no chance.
Presumed to have BFS, why does warm showers make the twitching/fatigue worse and cause consequent feelings of weakness, usually better within 15 min
? Something else: What you are describing is not very commonly reported in BFS. What type of evaluation did you have to make the diagnosis? Fatigue and weakness with being over-heated or hot showers is often reported in patients with MS. If you have been thoroughly evaluated by a neurologist, then no need to pursue that. If not, I would consult with one to see if further testing is indicated. ...Read more

Muscle twitching throughout body for 5 years. No loss of strength or atrophy. Never dx w/ BFS. Brain MRI norm. Get vitamin + mineral spectrum test?
Muscle Twitching: There are so many good pain management doctors, like Dr Michael Moskowitz and Dr Lee Wolfer in the San Francisco area that could work through this. I mention their names so you can review their websites and then compare to someone you find. Typically you need someone to think outside the box. Good luck. Dr Rich Blake ...Read more

How long should muscle twitches last if you have bfs or will they not ever go away. I twitch in my calves constantly and in random spots all over?
Fasciulations: Muscle fasiculations may occur and don't necessarily denote neurologic or muscle pathology. However if these are new to you and occur continually, I recommend an evaluation by a neurologist. ...Read more

My thumb and some parts of my body (including legs and chest) twitch from time to time. I have health anxiety, can that cause BFS?
Random muscle twitches all over body. Mostly in arms in legs, pretty much occur daily, have been present for years. No noticeable weakness. Cause? BFS?
Likely BFS: If you have had this for years with no weakness then benign fasciculations syndrome is highest on differential. Make sure you had your magnesium levels checked. In certain cases magnesium supplementation helps. Cut back on your caffeine intake and decrease your stress. consider eval with EMG testing to be sure it is just BFS; if it was ALS, MMN, myopathy etc you would have developed weakness by now ...Read more

Do we know what causes benign fasciculation syndrome? Twitch in my forehead for a week and worried it might have to do with my laptop bumping my head.
The muscle is twitching--but you knew that. This can be from a muscle effect. Low magnesium or potassium or calcium frequently causes this. But all over.
For one particular muscle, it is the muscle having more reactivity (sore, bruised, injured) or the nerve to it being inflamed, or the brain having less damping down activity (restless leg syndrome). ...Read more

Can you get high from touching Meth? I picked up a little pice of it off my bfs bed and now I'm freaking out.
Don't freak: It is very unlikely. A strong solution on hot (opened pore) skin might allow a small amount to get into a person's system, but not much and that's not what you describe. Don't freak!
