I am using 0.1% betamethasone for 4 months, I just know that I am pregnant in the first month, does the drug have any adverse effect on the fetus?

I am using 0.1% betamethasone for 4 months, I just know that I am pregnant in the first month, does the drug have any adverse effect on the fetus?

Probably OK: It's hard to prove any medicine is 100% safe in pregnancy. If it's not essential you could stop it for 1st trimester. However, little of the topical steroid will reach the fetus and many women have used it, not realizing they were pregnant. There does not seem to be any pattern of adverse effects on the fetus. ...Read more

Betamethasone dipropionate Augmented 0.05% cream I am taking a drug test for a government job which I cannot test for steroids how long will this last?

Betamethasone dipropionate Augmented 0.05% cream I am taking a drug test for a government job which I cannot test for steroids how long will this last?

Don't worry: The topical steroid cream that you are using is a "catabolic" steroid, legal and not part of a job application drug screen. The drug screen would look for "anabolic" steroids which are what body builders use to get very large muscles. The drug screen will not come back positive for steroid use if you are using "catabolic" steroids. ...Read more

Neither.: There is no "better" or "worse" among topical corticosteroids. Can I use lotriderm (Betamethasone) to ease insect bites?

Maybe: That is a pretty potent steroid for inflammation related to insect bites. Hydrocortisone may be more appropriate as it is milder. Having said that, if there are large areas of redness and itchiness and no open or bleeding wounds, betamethasone wouldn't be harmful if used sparingly. Also 25 mg Benadryl (diphenhydramine) may help ease the reaction. ...Read more

I've had psoriasis for ~15 years but it's gotten worse. I've applied betamethasone but topical is becoming impractical. Are there other options?

Methotrexate, Enbrel (etanercept): Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease involving the white blood cells attacking the skin as if it was bacteria or a virus.Low dose weekly Methotrexate is very effective in treating psoriasis--the way it works is not completely understood but decades of use show it is a reliable and safe drug (no alchohol! While taking). Enbrel (etanercept) is a newer highly effective drug that neutralizes tnf, inflammatory protein. ...Read more
