I have psoriasis on my penis and was told not to use betamethasone, which clears it up quickly. Why not, since it works?

I have psoriasis on my penis and was told not to use betamethasone, which clears it up quickly. Why not, since it works?

Risk of atrophy: Steroids are classified by there potency. For example Betamethasone dipropionate is high and Betamethasone valerate is mid. Potency is also altered by whether the steroid is an ointment or a cream. Short periods of treatment are okay but extended use of potent steroids increases risk of irreversible skin atrophy (thinning). Therefore very important to follow advice of a dermatologist. ...Read more

Is it safe to use betamethasone 0.05% ointment on my 3 month old baby's body for eczema? Is it safe on the face? Any side effects?

Is it safe to use betamethasone 0.05% ointment on my 3 month old baby's body for eczema? Is it safe on the face? Any side effects?

No…betamethasone is: High potency steroid & could damage baby's skin as well as interfere with growth if used too much. Hydrocortisone is lower potency; use 0.5 or 1.0% (otc) & the smallest amount that puts a thin film on affected area. Face is very sensitive area; so "less is more" applies. If 0.5% insufficient (after 5-7 days' use) may try 1%. Still no response, consult pediatrician. ...Read more

Betamethasone dipropionate Augmented 0.05% cream I am taking a drug test for a government job which I cannot test for steroids how long will this last?

Don't worry : The topical steroid cream that you are using is a "catabolic" steroid, legal and not part of a job application drug screen. The drug screen would look for "anabolic" steroids which are what body builders use to get very large muscles. The drug screen will not come back positive for steroid use if you are using "catabolic" steroids. ...Read more

Hard : Hard to tell without a clinical examination but it sounds like you might have eczema, hand dermatitis, or possibly psoriasis. I would start with only using a very gentle hydrating cleanser such as cerave hydrating cleanser and then applying cerave cream a few times per day. If that doesn't help, visit a dermatologist who can talk about prescription options/possible allergy testing. Read more about skin allergy at the link below. I hope that helps. ...Read more

Should different topical ointments be ever mixed? Can you tell me what side effects/if any could happen if you mix ammonium lactate cream, ketoconazal shampoo, betamethasone ointment, clobetasol propionate ointment?

The : The Betamethasone and the clobetasol are both steroids, therefore it is probably not a good idea to mix these together since steroids can cause thinning of the skin when used in high amounts or over prolonged periods of time. As far as the the other two ointments, there is no interaction as far as i can tell from my research; however you should consult the prescribing doctor or your local pharmacist to be sure. Take care. ...Read more
