Betaine Hcl Medication
I suffer from gerd and have oseaghitus could this be due to low acid? Heard this is possible to cause the reflux and betaine Hcl may help
No.: Although this kind of misinformation is present all over the Internet, it is frankly wrong. Esophagitis in GERD is caused by both stomach acid and enzymes secreted by the stomach. Taking HCl will make the problem worse. You should continue you any medicine that your doctor prescribed, follow anti-reflux measures, and follow up with him if your symptoms do not come under control. Good luck. ...Read more

I am having burning diarrhea after taking Betaine HCL with pepsin for the first time before breakfast. Should I discontinue taking or is this normal?
I've been consuming Betaine HCL for 3 months but the symptoms of low stomach acid still do not improve. I sweat a lot, so could this be the problem that causes me to have low stomach acid in the first place? I feel tired even though I have slept 8hrs

Why could I take 20 Betaine HCL pills and feel no burning? I recently got diagnosed with gastritis with erosion, is it too much stomach acid?
Why did you take?: Betaine hydrochloride has an interesting history. Betaine hydrochloride used to be included in over-the-counter (OTC) products as a “stomach acidifier and digestive aid.” But a federal law that went into effect in 1993 banned betaine hydrochloride from use in OTC products because there wasn’t enough evidence to classify it “generally recognized as safe and effective.” Why were you taking 20? ...Read more

I'm weening myself off Prevacid (lansoprazole) with the help of a Betaine/Pepsin HCL pill every morning. It helps but I now have heart palpitations. Side effect?
Betaine HCL/pepsin: There are no reported cases on palpitations but theoretically the pepsin/HCL combo could have negative vagal feedback (vagus stimulation produces pepsin on our stomach). The vagus nerve via parasympathetic stmulation slows the heart and if it is inhibited there could be increase heart rate. You could try stopping the meds and seeing if palpitations stop. Check B6, folate (folic acid), B12. F/U with doc. ...Read more

I started taking sertraline HCl 25 mg friday morning for anxiety today is my third day on the medication I was going to go out with some friends for a?
Not recommended: I wouldn't recommend use of any additional substances -- including alcohol -- if you have anxiety and/or are getting used to a new medication (like sertaline). Sertraline + alcohol can lead to sedation. Also, drinking alcohol itself can lead to anxiety -- depending on how much you drink, your frazzled neurons can fire in disturbed ways while recovering. ...Read more

Ciprofloxacin HCl 500mg, are there any life changing side effects to taking this medication, if so, what? I am 52 years old and in the past week started to experience numbness off and on in the crotch area. Dr. Prescribed this medication. I was told it I
This: This is an antibiotic and it is not clear how it could be related to numbness in the crotch, although medications can affect people differently. If it doesn't clear up please have your doctor see you again. If you have any back pain, numbness, weakness, pain down your legs, or loss of bowel or bladder control, you may have a spine condition and would need to be seen as an emergency. ...Read more
When would flexeril (cyclobenzaprine hcl) be indicated for migraine treatment? Also, would it be daily dosing or a prn medication?
Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine hcl): Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine hcl) is a muscle relaxant & would be used if the migranes were being triggered by muscle tension which is uncommon since most migraines are vascular in nature. I would think if prescribed for migraines it would be prn but there are better choices if you have true migraine headaches that could prevent or treat them. ...Read more

I started taking sertraline HCl 25mg friday morning for anxiety. It's my third day on the medication. Is it safe to have a few drinks? My doc said yes
"A few" = how many?: First, consider why you doubt your physician's advice. Next -- regarding the safety of "a few" drinks, it depends on the quantity you mean. I wouldn't recommend drinking at all while getting used to sertraline, as adding alcohol can lead to more sedation than expected. Also, drinking alcohol can itself lead to anxiety -- especially in hangovers when your irritable neurons are trying to recover. ...Read more

Medication for cystic acne & saeborrheic dermatitis causing severe migraines. Using isotretinoin, minocycline as HCl BP & desloratadine. Drug reaction?
Stop meds, check eye: If you are having headaches, I would stop the Minocycline and isotretinoin. When given together there is an increased risk of a rare side effect, pseudotumor cerebri. I would have my eyes checked and if no evidence of pseudotumor, restart either the Minocin (minocycline) or isotretinoin, but not both. Migraines can also worsen with Isotretinoin and not affect the eyes, but it definitely needs to be ruled out. ...Read more
