Beta Carotene Deficiency Symptoms
Balanced diet during pregnancy now that aversions are gone. Vitamin has vitamin a from beta carotene only and no choline. 14 weeks. Deficiency?
Should be ok...: A normal healthy pregnant woman eating a balanced diet and taking prenatal vitamins, in the United States or similar developed countries, does not need to worry about vitamin deficiencies. If she has a pre-existing disease that causes nutritional problems, then her ob-gyn and a nutritionist can investigate to see if changes in diet or supplements are needed. ...Read more
Prenatal vitamins only contain beta-carotene. My diet includes foods with preformed vitamin a and carotenoid and wonder if my baby will be deficient.
Avoid preformed Vit: Preformed vit a is the most common known source of birth defects. That is the risk to the baby. Also avoid any additional beta carotene. Foods contain a variety of carotenes. Eat normal vegies and fruits..Note that metformin causes low vit b12. B12 can be checked by a blood test or it can be supplied as a supplement which is not a risk to the baby. 32w pregnant. Vitamin A intake has come mainly from beta-carotene not retinol. Will my baby be deficient because of this?
Maybe: Please forgive this senior physician's frankness. The data on carotenes and lycopenes is so massive, so contradictory, is so tied up with the politics of "healthy diet", and makes so little sense scientifically that your question cannot be answered. In science, the stuff that's really true is generally established quickly. I love eating carrots, but would not spend money supplementing carotene. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
