Could be his: Sleeping position or from the mattress if it is old not supporting his back. If the back is not supported it can hurt into the armpits and around into the front of the chest all the way around to the middle. Have him try a different sleeping position for certain. Sleep: You probably are just over fatigued yourself! All that stress and lack of sleep and taking care of a baby will definitely do all that to you. Have you taken anything for your back pain like acetaminophen or ibuprofen or naproxen?
