get xray: At this point the pt. (hopefully)should no longer be intoxicated.A xray is indicated to see if the rib is 'broke' and to rule out a pneumothorax. Even w/ breath sounds equal etc. Rib fxs. What you are describing is pretty "classical" for subluxing (partial dislocating) ribs at the posterior cartilage connection with your spine.
UNFORTUNATELY you cannot "splint" your chest (you need to breathe / cough. If the pain is severe an injection may be helpful!
