A blood test showed that I'm B12 deficient. Serum B12 level of 186 pg/ml, should I take vitamin B12 supplements?

B12: This low will likely cause dementia, spinal cord degeneration and peripheral neuropathy. Keep your level above 550 for the rest of your life. Recovery takes about a year in a young person. I suggest you take liquid sublingual weekly for 3 months then bi weekly thereafter. Its important to check a level after you cut back to twice a month. Use 1 1/2 dropper and hold it under the tongue for 30 sec.

I am 22.Taking 750mcg methylcobalmin /day as vitamin B12 and 1000ug vitamin d3.My levels are b12=70pg/ml and. D3=10.In how much time will I recover?

I am 22.Taking 750mcg methylcobalmin /day as vitamin B12 and 1000ug vitamin d3.My levels are b12=70pg/ml and. D3=10.In how much time will I recover?

Need more D3,? B12 IM: It will take several weeks to raise d levels much but 1000 iu is not nearly enough- people need 5-8000 iu/day to achieve optimal levels of 50-80. I advise taking 10, 000 iu/day for 3 months ; then recheck levels- see http://bit. Ly/1gnxnk0 it's possible you can't absorb B12 in which case no oral dose would help. I would give 1000 mcg im 2-3x/week for a month then see if oral forms can maintain it.

Quick: Improvement of B12 deficiency symptoms with B12 injection can be fairly rapid, with some patients reportedly feeling more energetic the same day. Neuropathy may or may not be due to B12 deficiency, and as such, improvement may be variable.

What's the best way to get vitamin b12?

Meat, supplements: The best dietary source of B12 is, surprisingly, clams. Beef liver is another good source, though I would only eat this if organic. Salmon & other fish, beef, dairy & eggs are also good sources. Many grains & cereals are fortified with b12. The most reliable vegan source is nutritional yeast but I advise vegans to take a B12 supp. See http://ods. Od.Nih. Gov/factsheets/vitaminb12-healthprofessional/.

Can I take vitamin B12 with my medication?

Can I take vitamin B12 with my medication?

Yes, however...: You don't say which medication but it is safe to take B12 with all medications, but it should not be taken at the same time as tetracycline (take at least an hour apart). Many medications reduce absorption & thus increase our need for B12. I advise sublingual or chewable methylcobalamin. See http://umm. Edu/health/medical/altmed/supplement/vitamin-b12-cobalamin & http://bit. Ly/1cBhjvn.
