It depends on why: you have the cough. If you cough every time you take a breath, then it is pretty serious. If you have bronchitis, you need to be seen by healthcare provider to get proper treatment. Some cough drops (e.g. Ricola) or cough syrup can help. Nothing: Unfortunately, the cough of whooping cough is very unresponsive to all forms of treatment. Cough suppressants, bronchodilators, codeine, steroids etc. Rarely help.
