Doctor insights on:
I should have added that aside from the orthotics made specifically for me, what are the best orthotics on the market.
A host of reasons...: I cannot tell you the number of times that patients have come into the office with a bag full of orthotics, both custom and pre-fabricated. These patients were all told that the orthotics were just what they needed but proved to be unwearable for a whole host of various reasons. I tell you this because finding the best is not always as easy as it seems. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
A orthotic is a small piece of medical equipment that braces a bone and/or joint, to keep it in a better position, either at rest, during activities, or both. Examples of orthotics are plastic ankle braces to aid recovery from an ankle sprain, arched insoles to support flat feet, ankle-foot braces to help kids with cerebral ...Read more
Soccer boots: Do not have much room. Also, for the running and sudden changes of direction, there has to be some flexibility to the supportive shell. Orthotics come as rigid, semirigid, semiflexible and flexible. For soccer, i'd choose something semiflexible. Supportive enough without being overly rigid or overly flexible. Your podiatrist may have otc versions in stock or can make custom if needed. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Custom orthotics: As with many things in life, there is good, better, best. This is true for orthotics too. Custom orthotics are by far the best. Make sure that your podiatrist uses plaster to cast your feet in the "subtalar joint neutral position" so you will receive orthotics that correct abnormal biomechanics. Over-the-counter arch supports are made for the "average" foot and the arch will be too low for you. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Podiatrist: The best way to cast for custom orthotics is to make plaster molds of each foot while holding the subtalar joint in neutral position. As far as i know, only podiatrists use this technique. Other techniques include stepping in a foam box and stepping on a computer screen but these do no correct for abnormalities in biomechanics. Good podiatrists make orthotics that actually correct problems. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I have pressure and pain, at times on the arch of my right foot. I normally wear orthotics, but still using temporary ones because they are soft, while the permanent ones are harder. What is best adv?
Depends on foot type: It depends on foot type and activity level. Some people tolerate a harder orthotic better than others. Some people do better with softer. A hard orthotic can control rotation of the heel better but totally depends on what your feet do when you stand, walk, and do activity. ...Read more

Rest, supportive insoles, rx orthotics, otc anti-inflammatories (like aleve), prescription nsaid's, steroid injections, prp injections, physical therapy, etc... If all else fails...
