Avoid Fat Free: Yes. If they label this then there are laws. But, remember this is the worst products to buy in stores. Fat is not the cause of the obesity epidemic we have. Sugar is the demon. Fat free products are often stuffed full of sugars, especially concentrated fructose corn syrup. Opinions, opinions: I don't think it will matter too much - so a big part of your answer will be which you like better. Also different brands can differ. But, i've heard from nutritionist friends that the range from whole to fat free is much smaller than the public thinks. Good fat...: Yes...It is a better type of fat...We need fat in our diet, but unfortunately much of what we get is saturated fat--meaning from animal products. Often from nuts/plants, we get monosurated fat, a good thing. This fat is not as dangerous--not causing much damage to your blood vessels etc...So, monosaturated fat is a better fat to get. Unknown: I don't think we really know the answer to this excellent question but my impression is that, if you're using all the calories you eat, the fat content is not harmful. I base this on lipid profile results of Dr. Adkins (of the Adkins' diet) who eat a low carb, high fat diet, lose weight, and have no demonstrable harm.
