Sometimes, lipsticks or lip sunscreen chemicals are causing an allergic reaction on the lips. Other times, a person is a primary lip-licker (it's her habit). My lower lip is always chapped & peeling for 3yrs now. Lip balm doesn't help either. Help?

See dermatology: There are many causes of chapped/peeling lips. Long-standing dry skin can be due to dehydration or a reaction to an allergen (whether it's a chemical in lip balm or in food). But it's important to make sure with a dermatologist that there isn't an underlying inflammatory disorder or, less likely, a premalignant/malignant condition. In the mean time, use a thicker ointment like vaseline or Aquaphor ...Read more

I suddenly felt some dryness and little bumps on my lips. Its now some kind of allergy on my lips. Ate mango from peel; used a newish lip balm. What?

Contact allergy: This may well be from an allergic reaction to the mango but the new lip balm may also be a cause. If you have had problem with poison oak/poison ivy in the past, you are more likely to get a delayed allergic reaction (24-72 hrs after exposure) to mango. Obviously the best treatment is avoidance. ...Read more

I'm a boy and I have really dry lips. Is it okay to use the nivea essential care lip balm?

Yes: A girl would much rather kiss a boy with soft lips than one with really dry lips. And it you don't kiss- healthy lips look more attractive than dried, peeling, chapped ones. Hello. My lips are usually dry and flaky. A week ago, I did some exfoliation using lip scrub and a towel. I started applying a new lip balm as well.

Don't be a sucker: "Exfoliation" is seldom of any value. STOP. Do not scrub or otherwise abuse your poor lips. Try to stop licking because saliva is very irritating to the outside surfaces. Try frequent lubrication. You can use frequent applications of vaseline or Aquaphor or a stick. You fail to name your "new lip balm". ...Read more

U need to see an ENT: A bump on the lip can be a variety of different things. Commonly the mucosal lining of the lip (the red more moist part) contains tiny glands that secrete mucous, sometimes the glands become blocked and create small cysts that can be easily treated.
