Cool mist humidifier or vaporizer is good for babies? Is cool mist ok for winter?

To mist or not to: A humidifier is basically a fan that draws moisture from a paper or metallic wick & adds it to air in the room. A vaporizer makes a mist. Modern products use tuning fork technology & make light or heavy mist (vaporizers also humidify)they are safe & helpful when your heater dries out the air you sleep in. ...Read more

How many feet should u put a cool mist humidifier from a baby for maximum benefit? Thank you

How many feet should u put a cool mist humidifier from a baby for maximum benefit? Thank you

For young infants, : put a cool must humidifier across the room up to a maximum of 50% humidity, because, in theory, you could overload them with water if it's too close. I guess that's probably 7-9 feet in most bedrooms. Keep the humidifier & its cord up where a 6-month-old & older can't pull it over. Run it with a 10% Clorox solution to clean it when baby's not in the room, followed by a cycle of fresh water. ...Read more

I realized the gallon of purified water I left out to be room temp to mix with baby formula is cool! is it okay for formula to be cool at room temp?

No worries: The water can be at any normal temperature for mixing, from cold to warm... but when getting ready to feed a baby, make sure the formula is not too cold, and definitely not hot (hot formula is deadly stuff, so if warming up formula, just make it the same temperature as fresh breast milk). ...Read more

Ultrasonic humidifier or vaporizer for babies to get ride of cold ?

Cool humidifier: In my medical opinion, the cool mist ultrasonic humidifier is preferable to the hot vaporizer due to the safety concerns of the heating of the water with potential injury posed by the vaporizer. Furthermore, experientially, parental feedback indicates that the cool humidifier seems to provide a more calming cough relief than the hotter vaporizer. ...Read more

Air con seems to be to dry for 8 mth baby, is it better to put humidifier in the room? Will it help baby with sensitive nose?

Humidify: Central air runs through the same forced air ducts as winter heat does. It's very dry, even when there is a central humidifier attached. In-window air conditioners also tend to dry the air especially if the house is tight & well insulated. So yes a good humidifier would be helpful. Saline nasal spray before and after sleep is also very effective. Use the ones made for babies. ...Read more

When should I use a cool-mist humidifier versus a warm-mist humidifier for a child with a cold?

When should I use a cool-mist humidifier versus a warm-mist humidifier for a child with a cold?

For their safety, always use cool-mist humidifiers for children: Hot water or steam from a warm-mist humidifier or steam vaporizer can burn a child if he or she gets too close. In the event of a spill, hot water might also burn. Humidifiers add moisture to the air, which may help ease coughing and congestion due to a cold. Warm-mist and cool-mist humidifiers are equally effective in humidifying the air. By the time the water vapor reaches your child's lower airways, it's the same temperature regardless of whether it started out warm or cool. If you use a humidifier, be sure to keep it clean to prevent mineral buildup and the growth of bacteria and molds. Humidifiers that hold standing water, particularly cool-mist humidifiers, can disperse these materials into the air. Warm-mist humidifiers generally disperse less, if any, of these materials into the air. Emptying the tank and drying all surfaces of the humidifier daily is one way to safely keep it clean. Also, consider refilling the tank with bottled water that is labeled "distilled" or "purified," both of which contain lower mineral content than most tap water. ...Read more
