Need help with diet for diverticulitis and gallstones?

Will differ: Gallstones cause symptoms when they block the function of the gallbladder after eating fatty foods. Thus avoiding fatty foods like fried and high fat foods may be helpful. For diverticulitis, the blockage of diverticular sac openings is the root cause for inflammation. Avoiding constipation by eating more fiber and drinking more water, and to exercise more frequently. ...Read more

What would be an ideal diet for a gallstone patient? Patient in question is 86.

Low Fat Diet: A normal healthy diet, low on fat may help decrease some symptoms of colic if he/she is having cramping after meals. However there is no way to decrease the stones already in the gallbladder. If they are living asymptomatically or without problems, it is not necessary to remove the gallbladder. ...Read more

Is it true that a diet high in peanut butter can cause gallstones?

Not directly.: Although peanut butter itself doesn't directly cause gallstones, a diet high in fat and cholesterol and low in fiber does appear to play a role, among other factors. It would probably be good to cut back on the peanut butter if you are eating it all the time. ...Read more

Possible gallstones (waiting scan). What changes recommend? diet - avoid/increase? Medication? Can gallstones cause weight gain too? Cause moods?

Low fat diet: GB stones won't cause weight gain or mood swings. They do cause pain. Some Chinese teas can soften stones. If the stones are very big, you can try stone purge. Search on Google for more. Here is one: http://happyhomemaker88.com/tag/dr-lai-chiu-nans-gallstone-natural-remedy/ ...Read more

My father 60 y.o has gallstone avg. size 0.47 and he is diabetic. With good diet, what are the considerations to let gallbladder not removed.

Symptoms: If the stone is causing symptoms, in general we remove the gallbladder w/ the stones laparoscopically (small incisions, use of a camera). Typical symptoms are intermittent crampy pain in the right/mid upper abdomen, sometimes radiating to the back. Classically occurs 30-60 min. after eating, and exacerbated by fatty foods. In the US, without symptoms, we usually don't take it out. Hope this helps! ...Read more

If your on a low fat diet for gallstones is non fat sour cream and non fat mayo ok to eat?

Yes: The low fat diet is helpful only if fatty foods exacerbate the symptoms. A low fat diet does nothing to prevent problems with gallstones. If you're having trouble with them, See a general surgeon for a consultation to find out if laparoscopic gallbladder removal is appropriate. Hope this helps! ...Read more

My mom 68 . She has a gallstone , doesn't have any bother symptoms accept bloating. She wants to avoid surgery. What diet she needs to do ?

Low-fat diet: Fatty foods are generally the ones that stimulate your gallbladder to contract. It is that contraction that can lead to gallbladder pain. Bloating can be indicative of gas production either from lactose intolerance or a high fiber diet. Try using lactose free dairy prodcuts, or something like beano when having foods with fiber (fruits, vegetables, grains). ...Read more

I have gallstones and have to eat a low fat diet but how much fat is that? Any ideas?

I have gallstones and have to eat a low fat diet but how much fat is that? Any ideas?

Actually lower: The better. But this is only temporizing measure. If you have gallstones, change in diet will not resolve them, but cholecystectomy is definitive cure. With laparoscopy, it is at most an overnight procedure. You should go for it before complications from gallstones ensue if you are having symptoms. ...Read more

I'm 24 year old male, not overweight, good diet, no diabetes, I have pain upper ads ad back right side, gallstones or pancreatic cancer? No other symp

Cancer unlikely: Pancreatic cancer is not very common and typically occurs at an older age and doesn't usually present this way. Right upper quadrant pain is very frequently associated with gallstones, but you need a work up to determine your cause. If your pain occurs after eating and resolves in shortly it may well be stones. See your physician and have them obtain an ultrasound if your symptoms indicate ...Read more

I : I am so sorry to hear that you are having all of these health problems while you are pregnant. You are asking doctors who have not physically examined you, viewed your lab results, read you radiographic studies or obtained a comprehensive medical history if you should have abdominal surgery while pregnant. Any surgery during pregnancy is serious. It takes looking at your total medical situation to determine if the benefits of having the surgery outweigh the risks. If you don't get the surgery, the risk to you and your fetus also has to be weighed in. This is something that your medical team needs to discuss, so that they can provide you with options. You are also a member of your health team - as you get the final say so about whether or not to undergo surgery at this time. Your general surgeon and your obstetrician should be collaborating closely as this would have to be a team effort. I wish you best. ...Read more
