Inner ear infection (Otitis interna) is a less common inflammation of the inner ear that causes vertigo, ...Read more
My son doesn't respond well to amoxicillin for ear infections/strep, what would be the best antibiotic for him to take?
Hard to say: The strep germ is universally sensitive to any penicillin drug, so any perceived failure to amoxicillin is likely a reinfection or a strep carrier problem. The 1st drug tried for an otitis fails about 10% of the time regardless of drug used. The drug that will work depends on the sensitivity of the germ, that changes with each infection, so there is no perfect choice. Luckily we have several ...Read more
More aware of heart beat. Feels like it beats harder. A lot of sinus and ear infection issues constantly?
Eustachian Tube: Your sinus and ear infections will bring on eustachian tube dysfunction-air cannot get into the middle ear, pressure drops, sucking the eardrum inward and stopping movement in response to sound waves. You will be more aware of your heart beat and sound is often muffled and reduced. Chewing, swallowing or yawning can improve this along with improved cold and sinus sx's: decongestants/antihistamines ...Read more
What do doctors think is the top OTC medicine or homeopathic remedy for a serious sinus and ear infection?
On day 6 of cipro (ciprofloxacin) 500 mg1 tablet 2x per day for sinus and ear infection. Inner ears still hurt and am now running a low fever. Possible reasons?
Cipro (ciprofloxacin): Cipro (ciprofloxacin) treats some bacterial sinus/ear infections, but the fact is most sinus and ear infections in adults and children are viral and would be unaffected by antibiotics. Worsening symptoms indicate either inflammation/fluid accumulation and may be relieved with netti-pot, antihistamines, time. But, if this is bacterial, worsening suggests resistance and the need for a different antibiotic. ...Read more
I have sinus and ear infection. I'm on zpack 3rd pill, 48 hrs. No relief of ear, asthma flare up, green stuff from nose and cough. When will meds work?
A few days: It takes a few days, and sometimes an antibiotic doesn't help at all. Most problems like this are due to viruses or allergy. A nasal decongestant (e.g. oxymetazoline spray like Afrin) and/or asthma inhaler may help. See your doctor right away if you are short of breath or have asthmatic wheezing. Otherwise, give if another 3-4 days then contact the doctor if no better. ...Read more

My son is 12 yrs old and weighs 112 lbs. Is Amox/K Clav 875-125mg too high of a dose for a sinus/ear infection??
Pretty standard: Dosing for sinus and ear infections are much higher than those for simple urinary tract or chest infections. This is a normal dosing at this age. The med covers some of the partially resistant pneumoccal germs known as a major cause as well as weaker germs that would respond to less med. ...Read more
I am pretty sure I have a sinus infection with double ear infection, but don't have a dr. Appointment until tomorrow, what can I take now to help?
I am not sure what you mean by a sinus plate. Could you be more specific? I can reassure you that a middle ear infection does not cause sinusitis. It is true however at age 31 that a viral infection in the nose and back of the nose can lead to a simultaneous infection in the paranasal sinuses and the middle ear. But middle ear
infections always start in the back of the nose. ...Read more

Lymph nodes maybe: Lymph nodes generally get bigger when u get sick. Sometimes they can hurt but usually they don't. if u r feeling them along your neck, that's probably just from your sinus & ear infection. they should shrink back down when you get better. If you have lumps in other places or if they are big, you should have them checked out because that could be more serious problem ...Read more
My almost 3 year old has been getting ear infections since she was little, what should I do, what can happen, how to stop these....she has sinus problems?
Ear infections: Many children get ear infections when they are between 1-3. Typically they begin to outgrow them at this age. If the child is getting more than 5-6 ear infections per year, typically ear tubes are placed to reduce the number of infections and allow them to be treated with drops in the ear rather than more oral antibiotics. Frequent ear infections can affect hearing and speech development. ...Read more

I'm not sure if I'm understanding your question completely - the "flu" - also known as influenza - is a virus that can cause runny nose, cough, vomiting, body aches, fever, and tiredness. It often lasts at least a week. In children, the flu can lead to pneumonia or dehydration. Because of this, I always recommend the flu vaccine to all my pediatric patients (and as a mom, I always give it to my two children). The flu vaccine can be given as a shot or as a nasal spray.
