My doctor has prescribed me benztropine. What's it for?

There are a few uses: Benztropine is an anticholinergic drug used to reduce the side effects of antipsychotic treatment, such as pseudoparkinsonism and dystonia. It is also a second-line drug for the treatment of parkinson's disease. It improves tremor but not rigidity and bradykinesia. It is also sometimes used for dystonia, a rare disorder that causes abnormal muscle contraction.

How long does a benztropine high take?

How long does a benztropine high take?

More than prescribed: I wonder why you are asking this, are you trying to have hallucinations? The usual maximum dose of benztropine is six mgs per day. Any amount over that is unsafe. The hallucinations caused by too much benztropine can be associated with other dangerous effects.

Can you tell me about cold turkey risperidone and benztropine at 2mg?

Can you tell me about cold turkey risperidone and benztropine at 2mg?

Bad idea: You need to see the doctor who prescribed you those medications to review your treatment under medical supervision. These medications have to be slowly tapered never abruptly stopped. Take a second opinion by consulting with another doctor, if you prefer but please do not go cold turkey, best wishes for your health!

Can't sleep: Not clear about the dose of Trazodone or why you are taking Benztropine. Best to consult your prescribing doctor for adjustments in your medications.

Anxiety: Rather than relying on medications exclusively to reduce anxiety try psychotherapy with a qualified mental health professional. Also try the anti anxiety app on your phone for daily support and ongoing information. Best.

If someone over doses with 7 mgs of benztropine what would be the estimated reaction time and the possible effects that are expected?

If someone over doses with 7 mgs of benztropine what would be the estimated reaction time and the possible effects that are expected?

Who is involved?: If you trying to help out a friend, call 911 or get them to the emergency department. If you are contemplating doing this yourself, call 911 or get a friend to take you. And if this is just a thought exercise, I would offer that this type of overdose may produce delirium, seizures, and tachycardia among a host of additional negative effects. I hope everyone stays safe!

It's possible that 1mg of benztropine make you hallucinate?

It's possible that 1mg of benztropine make you hallucinate?

Possibly: Possibly yes. All anticholinergics can cause hallucination in susceptible individuals (e.g. Elderly with dementia, other medications, dehydration, heat exposure, etc). If you are concerned about this as a side effect of the medication, please check with your doctor. I hope this helps.

Can pseudoparkinson be treated with cogentin (benztropine)?

Depends: The severity and extent of parkinsonian symptoms, assuming what's being referred to is via other medications, will respond differently to different approaches. Some aspects may respond well (e.g. akathisia) and others not so much (e.g. dystonia) if using those drugs used to treat Parkinson Disease. Suggest a discussion with your doctor to assess what are the targets for therapy and side effects.

120mgs of Latuda, (lurasidone) getting where I can't sit still in evenings, on benztropine but not helping, is there anyway this will go away on it's own?

120mgs of Latuda, (lurasidone) getting where I can't sit still in evenings, on benztropine but not helping, is there anyway this will go away on it's own?

Try non-pharma: Let me suggest trying to find a good health psychologist to counsel you on mgmt of your chronic illnesses and strategies for relaxation, sleep habits. You can learn skills that really help. Also, Mindfulness Meditation practice develops abilities to settle yourself. These will help rather than hurt your conditions as medications might. Best!

Can cogentin (benztropine) cause anxiety?

Can cogentin (benztropine) cause anxiety?

Possibly: But why are you discussing a drug which has profound anti-cholinergic effects and adverse events, as this drug has mainly been supplanted by Dopamine agonists. Not sure, in this day and age, that there would be a valid role for cogentin (benztropine). Meet with your doctor and discuss.
