How do you typically treat cramping fasciculation syndrome or benign fasciculation? My father is having terrible nocturnal cramping and can't sleep.

Magnesium: Has he tried taking magnesium? Magnesium deficiency is rather common. Also a good leg, calf stretching program before going to bed may help. I assume a neurologist has already evaluated him. Read more

Started getting random cramping in my feet/hands a few days ago Lots of muscle twitches as well. Not severe, but mild cramps. What can cause this?

Cramping: In the feet and hands can be a sign of dehydration. If it has continued and is unresolved you need to be seen by your provider for an exam, lab work and a proper diagnosis. This can also be an initial symptom of a neuromuscular issue. Get lots of fluids and be sure to eat healthy! Read more

Fasciculations: Muscle cramps, generalized fasciculations, back cramps, neck shoulder stiffness, tingling at younger age are of concern and vary from benign forms such as benign fasciculations syndrome, small fiber neuropathy to more serious forms of neuromuscular disorders and warrants evaluation by neurology. I have benign fasciculation syndrome for 2 years. I feel totally fine, but live a very busy life. Can this actually be a conversion disorder?

I have benign fasciculation syndrome for 2 years. I feel totally fine, but live a very busy life. Can this actually be a conversion disorder?

Possibly: stress does many things to our mind and body. Muscle twitching is one of these things. People who have jerking movements or tremors tend to get worse with fatigue and stress. Read more

Is it possible/likely for someone with benign fasciculation syndrome to have normal/negative emg results?

Is it possible/likely for someone with benign fasciculation syndrome to have normal/negative emg results?

Yes.: A person with benign fasciculation syndrome would have a normal EMG, whereas someone with ALS would have signs of generalized denervation on EMG. Read more

I asked a poll of benign fasciculation syndrome and the common denominator of participants is it happens to athletic people that eat low carbs. Why?

I asked a poll of benign fasciculation syndrome and the common denominator of participants is it happens to athletic people that eat low carbs. Why?

Unknown: The true cause of benign fasciculations is yet unknown. To my knowledge there is no study to prove association of low carb diet and bfs. Once serious causes of fasciculations have been ruled out, one should stop worrying about it. Read more

Are the symptoms of benign fasciculation syndrome typically made worse by alcohol consumption?

Are the symptoms of benign fasciculation syndrome typically made worse by alcohol consumption?

Maybe: Alcohol has been used in moderation to treat essential tremor. It does not always help. It also gets to be a double edged sword. It may help but at what cause. I don't know if this applies to BFS. Read more

Is there anything other than Benign Fasciculation Syndrome that would cause muscle twitching throughout the body for years? Every day occurrence.

Is there anything other than Benign Fasciculation Syndrome that would cause muscle twitching throughout the body for years? Every day occurrence.

Probably not: I assume you had a complete metabolic as well as neurologic evaluation. It was suggested this is benign fasciculation because other conditions that can cause it would be neurologic conditions, which it appears you don't have. Read more

Is it safe to try vitamin E 400 IU for benign fasciculation syndrome? I tried it with fatty meal last night and I think it helped? Coincidence?

Is it safe to try vitamin E 400 IU for benign fasciculation syndrome? I tried it with fatty meal last night and I think it helped? Coincidence?

Yes, also try mag.: While I don't know of any research on this, many people report Vit E helps & it's safe to try. While some studies have shown harm from E they used synthetic E. It's important to take natural E with mixed tocopherols. Don't take dl-alpha tocopherol! See http://lpi. Oregonstate. Edu/infocenter/vitamins/vitaminE/ & http://articles. Mercola. Do we know what causes benign fasciculation syndrome? Twitch in my forehead for a week and worried it might have to do with my laptop bumping my head.

Do we know what causes benign fasciculation syndrome? Twitch in my forehead for a week and worried it might have to do with my laptop bumping my head.

Not exactly.: The muscle is twitching--but you knew that. This can be from a muscle effect. Low magnesium or potassium or calcium frequently causes this. But all over.
For one particular muscle, it is the muscle having more reactivity (sore, bruised, injured) or the nerve to it being inflamed, or the brain having less damping down activity (restless leg syndrome). Read more

Benign fasicucilation sydrome -is there anything in addition to B6 and magnesium that can improve this?

Yes: Make sure the diagnosis is correct and not ALS or other neurological disorder. Neurontin, gabapentin, has been reported in 1case report to work. Botox has been used successful ly in patients with a particular muscle that is troublesome. Carbamezepine has been used successful ly. Finally beta blocker such as inderal, (propranolol) and Primidone which are both used in essential tremor have been used. Read more

Can chronic fatigue syndrome cause fasciculations on emg?

Can chronic fatigue syndrome cause fasciculations on emg?

Chronic fatigue: Is daytime hypoarousal outside of another diagnosis. It may be associated with a low pain threshold or you may have a mood or anxiety disorder. Fasciculations on EMG fasculations, or muscle spasms, is seperate from chronic fatigue syndrome, but chronic fatigue can be a part of other problems, some of which you likely got the EMG for. Do you have pain?, sleep well? Grind your teeth at night? Read more
