Oils and fats: Oils and fats have higher calories. Proteins and carbs (starches, sugars) have lower calories than oils and fats have. More importantly is the amount of food one eats. For example, eating 12 ounces of protein has more calories than eating 3 ounces of fats. One must also consider the nutritional value of the foods (but that's another story).

I am wondering what high calorie foods are good for you?

Meats: Avocados are a high-fat fruit/vegetable that have a good proportion of the 40 essential nutrients, but if you look up nutrients-per-serving on a site like choosemyplate. Gov, the highest nutrient content comes from meats, especially organ meats like liver. Meats do not have the most nutrients per calorie, but in terms of nutrients per serving, especially protein and iron, meats win.

I need an idea of foods that is very high in calories. Can you help with me with this?

High fat foods: Fat has 9cal/gm versus 4cal/gm for carbs & protein. So high-fat snack food, whole milk ice cream, marbled-meats, cream-based sauces / heavy soups, etc. Would be best options for high calorie foods. However, this is in general very bad for your long-term health, so must be undertaken with adequate forethought of future consequences. Better to be thin!

Nuts!: All nuts are high in monounsaturated fats as well as protein. They are ideal ways of adding "healthy" calories.

Yes, but: Remember that diet shuld be imbalanced. Try to eat usaturated fats mainly. Proteins intake is very important. Also vitamins and minerals.

Ice cream: Patients with gastroparesis should be on a low residue diet. Ice cream is a high calorie food (not the light or low fat type) that is gastroparesis friendly. Just remember that too much fat in your diet will slow gastric emptying and may make the symptoms of gastroparesis worse.

Gaining weight: Gaining weight is not easy for the super skinny! To gain one pound per week, add 500calories extra per day. Take these calories in as protein and carbs. I don't recommend junk food. You can do protein bars (about 250-300cal) two extra per day on top of your regular food. Also try protein smoothies with 2% greek yogurt, protein powder, fruit and nut butters.

Fat food: If you continue taking fat food you will quickly minimize your blood flow, particularly blood supply to your heart. Stop eating so much saturated fat or pay the price. I am sure you don't want that.
