Healing: Redness and itching as well as soreness can be seen around skin stitches at this time. Localized redness with itching and soreness can represent the starting of an infection. You need to let your surgeon know about this and if it worsens, you should see your surgeon.

Yeast or staph: If you have a piercing, this could be a bacterial infection like staph. Even without a piercing, yeast infections also start in that area because it is warm and moist. Clean it carefully with a q tip and some peroxide for a couple of days, and try putting some lotrimin (clotrimazole) anti-yeast cream in the area. If the redness spreads, you get fever or you have increased pain, see your doctor right away.

Get it checked: This is probably an infection and may need oral antibiotics to treat as well as topical. You didn't mention if it was pierced, but if so, removal might be necessary for it to heal.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without examining you, however, what you described suggests an infection and you should consult a doctor.

My belly button is very red and very sore, sometimes a little bloody. What is it, and what are some home remedies I could do?

Belly button: This is a localized irritation or infection of the skin in and around the belly button. Wash inside well and then wash with hydrogen peroxide. Then put a neosporin or bacitracin ointment in there for a few days. It should be fine.

Sebum: Do not put anything into the piercing. Wash in shower. See a DR if it is very sore or swollen. Avoid bacitracin, neosporin, triple antibiotic as these will do no good and are common sensitizers.

Sore belly button. It is red around the button, and it smells of rotten cheese.?

Sore belly button. It is red around the button, and it smells of rotten cheese.?

An infection brewing: It seems that you have an infection there. Unfortunately, some have a very deep belly-button hole which can trap moisture/debris and can get infected. Early fungal infection can have itching to it, but bacterial infection typically causes more swelling. If an infected cyst is ruptured, it can stink. Since you are having pain, I suspect bacterial cause. Consult doc for eval. Good luck.

I have a very red very sore belly button I also keep getting little spots around the tummy area?

Yeast infection??: Yeast like to grow in warm moist areas like a "belly button" (umbilicus) also in the groin. Axilla, vagina etc. Make an appointment with your family physician. If it is a yeast infection it is easily treated. The way to avoid this problem is after taking a shower dry the aforementioned areas well. I see this problem a lot and also recommend using a hair dryer to make sure the akin is dry,
