Is it possible for your bowels to get stuck or caught in your intestines after having a belly button hernia repair?

Is it possible for your bowels to get stuck or caught in your intestines after having a belly button hernia repair?

Adhesions: Post-operative adhesions may result after any type of abdominal surgery. Think of a scar after you get a cut on your skin. After having hernia repair my belly button is infected for 7 mths now ! How can I get it healed ?

Reoperation?: If you had a mesh or permanent sutures placed, they may need to be removed in order to get the wound to heal. Best to see your surgeon for a follow up exam. If that is already being done, and not helping, consider a second opinion from another general surgeon. Hope this helps! ...Read more

Hi, do umbilicoplasties remove hernias on the belly button? Also, does the surgical procedure called a hernia repair turn an outie to an innie?

Umbilical hernias. : Umbelicoplasty should involve a repair of an umbelical hernia. But it does not have to. These are two different procedures. I would always do the following in the same procedure. 1) repair the hernia 2) do the umbelicoplasty and remove the excess tissue and 3) convert an "outie" to an "innie" ...Read more

I've had a laparoscopic hernia repair 3 yrs ago, but y do I still have the bulge in the belly button and still get pain wich is relieved with pressure?

More info: This is common after successful laparoscopic hernia repair, especially if some of the herniated fat remained in the hernia sac after repair. It could also represent a recurrent her is, although less likely. You should have an exam, and may need a ct scan to tell the difference. This should be done by your surgeon, but if not available, any general surgeon with experience with lap hernia repair. ...Read more

Recurrence?: I would recommend to go see the same surgeon and see if the hernia is back. Sometimes it is just a pull of the scar tissue and nothing more that will heal with time and anti inflammatory agents, but it should be examined. ...Read more

I had umbilical hernia repair with mesh 5 months ago. I am a runner. Recently I have felt 2 bumps near my belly button. Has my hernia come back? :/

Maybe not: I am assuming the repair was done open, not laparoscopically? The bumps may be related to the suture they used to sew the mesh into place, especially if you are skinny. That will eventually go away- although it may take months depending on the suture they used. There is always a chance of hernia recurrence, though. ...Read more
