What chemical in gum: There are chemicals that are used to sweeten foods and gum that has been shown to cause cancer in animals and possibly in humans. One of these chemicals is aspartane. Another chemical used to sweeten foods that has been shown to cause cancer in animals is chlorinated splenda which by chlorinating causes splenda to be 500 times sweeter. Very much doubt it: Anything can be "shown to cause cancer" by giving preposterous doses to lab animals, or trying to get people with cancer to remember having used it. Forty years in medicine has taught me that the real causes of cancer that consistently hold up are things that mutate genes (and a few things that gravely damage epithelium).
