What are great yoga poses for a beginner to start out with?

What are great yoga poses for a beginner to start out with?

See below: The best thing to do in my opinion is to start out with a gentle yoga class with an experienced teacher who can show you the proper alignment techniques. Do not be in a hurry to "graduate" to more advanced classes and power classes. I see many people in these upper level classes who are using poor form and alignment and will likely hurt themselves. It takes time but it is well worth it. ...Read more

What suggestions can you give to keep your spine straight in yoga poses?

Yoga: That is really a question for your instructor. Since most physicians are not yoga instructors, i would suggest you discuss the technique issues with your instructor. Now for posture on a daily basis, i would recommend you place a book on your head and balance it. That, is the position your spine should be in during your day. Head centered over the pelvis/hips from the front and side. ...Read more

Which yoga poses are good for myasthenia gravis?

Which yoga poses are good for myasthenia gravis?

Tricky to answer: I doubt many muscle disease specialists or neurologists are expert in yoga. With that in mind, ask a yoga instructor. ...Read more

Do you know which yoga poses can reduce belly, waist and bum fat?

Do you know which yoga poses can reduce belly, waist and bum fat?

Poses & Activity: There are many poses that can help with pelvic weight/fat loss. In general, anything that fires the muscles under the area you are describing. This is most often achieved with your knees bent causing big muscles to fire, like the glutes, quads, etc. The sun salutation would be one to consider, but pretty much anything that uses the legs and glutes would be good. ...Read more

Yoga poses caused tingling of hand+ twitching of finger. 3 week of yoga later symptom now less. Did it help or did i kill off the nerve?

Interesting: From your description and history, yoga was not harmful. You did not kill a nerve. Degenerative disc disease in a 26 year old man requires exercise, posture training and review of your lifestyle. Yoga with an instructor that understands your condition would normally be a good thing. Breathing properly during postures can change the pressure on your discs. Inversion postures recommended. ...Read more

Hip joint of 1 leg painful n inflamed after riding bike. Electric shock sensation down leg when doing certain yoga poses. Why? Will celebrex (celecoxib) help?

May be pinched nerve: Two strong possibilities: 1) pinched nerve of the the low back 2) hip osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis of the hip is a result of wear & tear. This can be diagnosed by x-ray. Celebrex (celecoxib) is an anti-inflammatory med & could help. The electric shock sensation could be a radiculopathy, aka "pinched nerve" in, or "sciatica." Celebrex (celecoxib) could help, as could physical therapy, or an epidural steroid injection. ...Read more
