Many causes possible: I do not have enough specific information to make an educated list of possible diagnoses. You need to see a doctor and have a carefil examination - perhaps blood tests, x-rays. Heat/motrin: If it is so severe you can't get up you probably need to see a doctor. The best things you can do at home are to use heat on your back and alternate 400mg motrin with 1000mg tylenol every 4 hours. Do not take the tylenol more than 3 times per day. Do not take tylenol if you have liver problems. Do not take motrin if you have kidney problems. See doctor if you need more pain relief. ...Read more

Egg Crate/Foam Pad: When i was in iraq i had the same problem. You can get a memory foam pad or "egg crate" pad at the px for not very much money. That really helped my back, maybe it will help yours? If the problem is that the mattress/springs are too soft, you can try some 1/4" plywood under the mattress to stiffen it up. An air mattress might help, too. ...Read more
