Heat/motrin: If it is so severe you can't get up you probably need to see a doctor. The best things you can do at home are to use heat on your back and alternate 400mg motrin with 1000mg tylenol every 4 hours. Do not take the tylenol more than 3 times per day. Egg Crate/Foam Pad: When i was in iraq i had the same problem. You can get a memory foam pad or "egg crate" pad at the px for not very much money. That really helped my back, maybe it will help yours? If the problem is that the mattress/springs are too soft, you can try some 1/4" plywood under the mattress to stiffen it up.
