Baseline Number For Ca 125 Blood Test
Ca125 is also known as Cancer antigen 125. Ca-125 (cancer antigen 125 or carbohydrate antigen 125) is a biomarker/tumor marker for ovarian cancer (etc); however, it is not sensitive or specific enough to use as a screening test. Also, a uk study showed that treating based on ca125 level did not improve outcomes. "125" comes from the 125th attempt to develop a marker. It was introduced by bast ...Read more
My ca 125 blood test result slightly elevated, with a different reading 3 times, what could cause this to happen?
CA 125: A ca 125 is not a very accurate test. Anything that affects the lining of your abdomen (peritoneum), lung cavity (pleura), or sac around your heart (pericardium) can change the ca 125 level. This includes everything from a cold to kidney failure to cancer. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I went to take a ca-125 blood test and the doctors office said it was normal that I had a 8.6, is that actually normal?
CA 125 - Why check?: 8.6 sounds like a normal value for the cancer antigen 125 (ca125) laboratory test. However, why did you want to get it? It is not a screening test for ovarian cancer. It is an adjunctive test for measuring tumor response (ie, a tumor marker) for patients with known ovarian cancer. It isn't perfect even when we know someone has ovarian cancer. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Save your $$: This blood test is useful only in certain situations and is not accurate if you are trying to make a new cancer diagnosis. My advice is to save your money, and visit your doctor if you have a specific concern. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Not beneficial: The ca125 test is not used for screening for ovarian cancer because it does not work in the general female population. The ca125 can be abnormal in situations without any cancer and most importantly using this test does not save any lives like in the case of maamograms for breast cancer. ...Read more
I just received my blood test results which showed a ca-125 reading of 35. The blood test results showed hyper chromic microcytic anaemia.
Benign: A Ca 125 of 35 was found to be a useful cutoff point, with 99% of healthy women having values less than 35. Levels above 35 units are certainly seen in healthy women, but beyond the cutoff point of 35, the higher the value, the more likely there is trouble. With ovarian cancer, the levels measure in hundreds. Depends on what you are looking for. Repeat the test. You probably need some iron tabs. ...Read more
