My son is 11 and a pitcher in baseball. Will push ups and pitching wear on his rotator cuff? Will a sore rotator cuff cause other arm issues?
Pitching: While pitching can be stressful to a shoulder, at 11 it is more likely to cause bone/growth plate issues. The rotator cuff is less vulnerable at his age, but can still get inflamed. Push ups and other exercises to strengthen his body should help reduce injury. Rest, talk to his MD: Throwing a ball of any kind can cause soreness in the elbow of that arm. Rest is the main treatment. Talk to his doctor about it. If it is from throwing, then he may need to change how he holds or throws the ball to decrease he pain.
