Dr. Michael E. Ein answered:

What does "minimal basal subsegmental atelectasis" mean and is it life threatening?

NO

Atelectasis
FAILURE TO BREATH DEEPLY FOR VARIOUS REASONS SUCH AS PAIN IN A POST OPERATIVE PATIENT CAN CAUSE COLLAPSE OF SMALL AREAS OF THE LUNGS. THIS USUALLY OCCURS AT THE BOTTOM OR BASES OF THE LUNGS WHICH IS MINIMAL BASAL SUBSEGMENTAL ATELECTASIS. USING AN INCENTIVE SPIROMETER WILL RESOLVE THIS MINOR CONDITION. IT IS NOT LIFE THREATENING IN ANY WAY.

Dr. Ed Friedlander answered:

What's basal cell cancer?

Fairly tame but...

Basal_cell
It's a skin cancer usually from sun exposure. Surgical excision almost always results in a cure, and Moh's microsurgery can leave almost no scar if that matters. It rarely spreads to remote sites, but it is quite capable of eating through your skull and into your brain if you choose to ignore it. Good luck.

Can basal cell cancer spread?

Yes, but unlikely

Cancer
Basal cell cancers (BCC) are the most common type of cancer on the skin. While they can grow aggressively locally if neglected, they are very unlikely to spread elsewhere in the body. Most BCCs can be treated with surgery, curretting, and certain ones can even be treated with a cream. Larger BCCs and those in sensitive areas should be treatd by a fellowship trained Mohs surgeon.

Dr. Megan Bird answered:

What is basal body temperature?

Early morning temp

The basal body temperature is the temperature your body is at when you first wake up, before you get moving for the day. We use it to check for when your body releases an egg. It can only be measured with a special thermometer which reads temperature at a more accurate scale.

Is basal cell carcinoma serious?

Yes and no

Cancer
Basal cell carcinoma is a type of skin cancer which is not malignant in the sense it will not spread to distant parts of the body and threaten life the way that other cancers can. It is still a cancer though and since it tends to affect the face it can grow into cosmetically sensitive areas and near nerves. It sometimes needs more complicated surgery to remove given the location on the face.

Wherever it is, it suggests impaired blood flow and circulation related to high blood pressure, aging, diabetes, high cholesterol and smoking.Follow up with your DR. Take care!

Many options include topical agent such as imiquimod, curettage and desiccation ("scrape and burn"), photodynamic therapy, lasers, surgical excision, radiation, but the gold standard with the highest cure rate and smallest scar is Mohs micrographic surgery.

Can basal cell carcinoma be cured?

Vast Majority

Basal_cell_carcinoma
Basal cell carcinoma is the most common skin cancer, but it accounts for less than 0.1% of patient deaths due to cancer. However, you want to treat it early to prevent significant cosmetic deformities.
