How accurate is the hiv-dna by pcr?

How accurate is the hiv-dna by pcr?

Nucleic acid Test : Hiv is a RNA virus. Nucleic acid testing (nat) is done to (1) detect virus for an early diagnosis after potential exposure; (2) donated blood to detect infection, (3) to measure the viral load in someone undergoing treatment for hiv. Nat may be negative up to two weeks or so after acquiring infection. It is the most accurate of the tests for hiv. ...Read more

Polymerase Chain Reaction (Definition)

Polymerase chain reaction is a method of finding a specific piece of dna and copying it over and over again until there is enough to study. The technique allows a scientist to detect very small amounts of dna in a swab sample then reproduce enough of it to study it. It is very sensisitive for detecting the presence of certain bacteria and is also used in doing other ...Read more

Can you tell me why PCR and DNA sequencing provided no results for brent's pathogen.?

Homework: This is the last line from a long homework problem that's already all over other answer boards. It's not appropriate to bring it here, and without the rest of the problem, we can't answer it anyway. ...Read more

Why is the HIV DNA PCR test not recommended after 4 weeks of exposure? Would it still be a good measure if used past a 3 month time frame?

Why is the HIV DNA PCR test not recommended after 4 weeks of exposure? Would it still be a good measure if used past a 3 month time frame?

HIV RNA PCR: It is completely diagnostic at four weeks. Who told you otherwise? But it must be combined with one of the newer generation antibody tests in case you happen to have a natural ability to suppress the viral replication. ...Read more

Highly unlikley: But hopefully you were also tested for a host of other stds at the same time. The lesson is universal barrier protection. With mono-like illness this could be one of many other diseases, like cmv, toxoplasma, and so on. Only a detailed work-up is likely to clear this up, but then you have to ask yourself if it will make a difference in your long-term health, particularly if you are now better. ...Read more

Too soon: Not reliable at all. I am shocked anyone would even offer you such a test before the test could possibly be valid! the HIV pcr test can be accurate after fourteen days. Most of us wait till day 21 after exposure to erase all doubts. You tested too soon! ...Read more

I had unprotected oral sex on me I saw no blood I have no sores I am circumsized I have tooken a HIV dna pcr test at 18 days and a 46 also a 4 week and 6 week duo test and a 8 week rapid test am I ok?

I had unprotected oral sex on me I saw no blood I have no sores I am circumsized I have tooken a HIV dna pcr test at 18 days and a 46 also a 4 week and 6 week duo test and a 8 week rapid test am I ok?

You're OK: Oral sex is safe sex for HIV, with no proved transmissions by fellatio from mouth to penis, only rare ones penis to oral. You didn't need testing on account of this event and for sure not the multiple expensive ones you had. But the results from that combination of tests are conclusive. For sure you didn't catch HIV during that exposure and no further testing is needed. Best wishes and stay safe! ...Read more

Is the HIV DNA PCR test accurate enough for early diagnosis?

Yes: The PCR is highly accurate and sensitive. It may take 6 weeks to 6 months for the elisa and western blot antibody tests to be positive. Since the PCR tests for the virus itself, it is detectable earlier, before an immune response has been initiated, but at a much higher price. ...Read more

Got negative result at 15 th day of my post exposure. Now can I trust on the HIV proviral DNA PCR result?

May be too early: Hiv nucleic acid test may not turn positive in two weeks. A negative result is good but you need to be retested in three too six months to be sure. Did you get post-exposure prophylaxis? Please talk to your doctor about prophylaxis, informing your sex partners and your follow-up care. ...Read more

Hiv has many types and subtypes.so can an HIV DNA PCR test after 21 days of possible exposure rule out HIV completely?

Hiv has many types and subtypes.so can an HIV DNA PCR test after 21 days of possible exposure rule out HIV completely?

HIV testing: Certainly possible exposure to HIV is worrisome. Rest assured however that HIV testing is extremely good. The standard PCR test is used when a patient might be in the "window period"- that is between the time from infection until an antibody response is registered by the body. Your doc ordered the right test & u can breathe a sigh of relief. Please be careful next time tho-- this & other STDs suck ...Read more

Hi. Just wanted to know how accurate is a HIV DNA PCR test at 6 and 21 days after exposure. Both tests came back as not detected.?

Negative: The overwhelming probability is that you are negative. This is a very accurate test and rapidly becomes positive in infected individuals. The test actually measures rna. This virus is call a retrovirus because in the cell it is converted to dna and then intercalated into the cell genome. ...Read more

Is HIV PCR DNA test after 9 weeks conclusive enough?

HIV PCR testing: Yes. This excellent new way of testing viruses is very sensitive. It is thought that the HIV pcr dna test can narrow the window to 14 to 21 days post exposure. A negative test at 9 weeks post exposure means you do not have hiv. ...Read more
