How is modified barium swollow test different from old style barium swollow test?

Here's Answer #6: There are a variety of ways a barium swallow test can be conducted. The most common is simply having the patient swallow oral contrast while the radiologist watches the passage of barium down the esophagus. Can too much barium intake for example 6 -32oz barium smoothies and two 8oz of the thick barium cause throat pain & swelling, nausea, weakness?

Strange question: I'm not really sure what you mean by this question. Barium smoothies are used for imaging the intestines or the upper digestive tract. They do have side effects which can include those you're concerned about. If you have intestinal problems and have had multiple studies over a long period of time and have consumed this it's probably okay. If you're drinking this for fun stop immediately. ...Read more

Dear sir, dose upper endoscopy have side effects. That is why some doctor says it has bad effect after 3 or 4 lab of procedure?

EGD side-effects.: Typical side-effects of an upper endoscopy would include sore or scratchy throat as the most common, since the scope can scrape the back of the throat during the procedure. This can be relieved by ice chips afterwards, since they can reduce the swelling in that area. Other less common occurrences include mild to more severe aspiration, especially if there is gastroparesis present. ...Read more

My barium swallow test was negative for anything. What j's the difference of a modified swallow? Will it show something different.?

Card to say: Perhaps the doctor doing the swallow saw something that he says should be followed. You say why you had the swallow in the first place. But if some of the barium went down the wrong pipe like the lung they may want to see why. You should have a talk with your doctor. Fluoroscopy does involve radiation . In the hands of an experienced radiologist this will be kept to minimum ...Read more
