Bare Metal Stents How Long Aspirin And Plavix
After 1 year on plavix (clopidogrel) and aspirin for 2 stents for LAD will a patient usuaaly discontinue the plavix (clopidogrel).(diabetic also)?
What drug is superior pradaxa or warfarin? I have two metal bare stents and a history of atrial defibrillation.
Depends: Both are anticoagulants, and are used for prophylaxis in atrial fibrillation. Bare metal stents are better treated with Aspirin and plavix (clopidogrel). Between Pradaxa and warfarin, both are effective, with Pradaxa requiring no monitoring, but warfarin much less expensive. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
H attack and stroke 11 months ago, 1 DES in LAD, took Plavix (clopidogrel) all the time & Aspirin for 3,5 months. Can Plavix (clopidogrel) be substituted with Eliquis?
Data still coming in: To date most information favors Eliquis over Plavix (clopidogrel) in several studies mainly having to do with atrial fibrillation. Data on your particular situation is not really available yet partly because we have to test Eliquis with DES to see if there are any problems. Keep watching as I am sure if Eliquis proves out you may be able to switch in future ...Read more
I have a total of 6 stents, how long should I expect to be on plavix (clopidogrel) or other blood thinning medication?
Depends: It doesn't matter so much how many stents you have but why you have them, what do you your other arteries look like and when were they put in. For instance, if a patient had stents for a heart attack and got 2 stents and then got 2 more 8 months later and then another 2 in a year, i might recommend life long antiplatelet treatment with Aspirin (81 mg) and plavix (clopidogrel). ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Is it possible to take only Plavix (clopidogrel) and not Aspirin after coronary stenting?I have erosive gastritis and DES in LAD after heart a, need 3 more stents.
Anti platelet Rx: We use dual antiplatelet therapy for at least 6 months to minimize stents occluding after placement. Usually either aspirin or plavix (clopidogrel) is continued later if no contraindication to that. The erosive gastritis is a significant problem and the appropriate step(s) in this case need to be considered with risks and benefits to the treatments by those with the most information about the patient. ...Read more

Therapist told mom to take citalopram. Had heart angio and stents 2 months ago! uses plavix (clopidogrel) metaprolol and asprin! is it ok to use citalopram?Dosage?
Celexa (citalopram): The usual starting dose is 20mg once daily. I feel that collaboration between the cardiologist and the psychiatrist is advisable in this case in view of your mom's cardiac condition as high doses of citalopram have been associated with cardiac rhythm disorders. There is probably no harmful cardiac effects in the low doses, however. ...Read more
Is rivaroxaban xalerto safe and good drug for preventing stroke in Afib compared to aspirin and plavix (clopidogrel) together in72 yr man with hypertension,s.cr1.56?
Xalerto is best: His CHA2DS2-VASc score is 2 (age and presence of hypertension). All studies have concluded that the benefit from anticoagulation significantly exceeds the risks for almost all AF patients with a score of 2 or more. Xalerto will more effectively reduce his risk of stroke and won't increase his risk of bleeding. ...Read more
