How can someone test positive for two Lyme-specific bands on western blot and NOT have been exposed to Lyme disease? What is magic about 5 bands?

How can someone test positive for two Lyme-specific bands on western blot and NOT have been exposed to Lyme disease? What is magic about 5 bands?

Immune complexities: Lyme disease is caused by a certain type of bacteria called a 'spirochete'- they are a whole class actually of bacteria and believe it or not can be found commonly in the mouth or elsewhere in the environment. You have to reach a certain 'threshold' with Lyme testing because there could be some cross-reactivity coming from these other types of bacteria. The immune system is extraordinarily complex ...Read more

I got a Lyme disease test done.& IgG 66 came positive out of the other 10 bands. What does this mean? Do I have Lyme or had it? Should i worry? Thanks

Not enough info: This test is not evidence of lyme but also not proof you don't have it! ultimately lyme is a clinical diagnosis. 20-30% of those who have it never have a positive western blot. It's really important that the test include the 31 & 34 bands & most labs don't check it- igenex is the best lab for a thorough test. See a doc who uses igenex as that is someone able to make a proper diagnosis.See comment:. ...Read more

Wb-band 41 positive, dfm showed spirochetes and gemmas.Syphilis-negative.Can it be Lyme with only band 41 positive?Got inactive demyelination lessions

Possibly- more tests: A 41 band alone could signify lyme but is not enough to make the diagnosis. Unfortunately most labs don't do an adequate WB test- it's crucial to test the highly specific 31 & 34 bands & most labs don't. Ignenex does the best test. Is it possible to have MS and hypogammaglubamemia? I have a positive MRI for MS lesion, neg. Bands. I know typically MS has elevated IgG mine was 627

Is it possible to have MS and hypogammaglubamemia? I have a positive MRI for MS lesion, neg. Bands. I know typically MS has elevated IgG mine was 627

Lab data: Numbers on lab tests have little meaning without full consideration of the clinical parameters. Without being able to examine you, have your medical records available and a full history it is impossible to answer your question specifically. It is possible you have ms and another condition simultaneously, or other combinations. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Good luck. ...Read more

I tested positive for Lyme disease. I was given the EIA (result 6.1), IgG (10 bands present) and IgM WB (3 bands) Does this mean I've had LD for a whi?

Yes: The presence of IgG usually indicates past infection which might have occurred months or even years ago. The presence of IgM indicates a current or recent infection. ...Read more

I had HIV EIA (enzyme immunoassay) testing done and it has been non-reactive. What else could be causing the P41 Band (IgG & IgM) to be positive?

I had HIV EIA (enzyme immunoassay) testing done and it has been non-reactive. What else could be causing the P41 Band (IgG & IgM) to be positive?

Cross-reactivity: Your body antibodies to a protein that shares some structure with p41. This is the reason to look for antibodies to multiple HIV proteins, rather than relying on one. Antibodies do cross-react with proteins similar to the one that elicited the antibody. ...Read more
