Alopecia areata occurs when the body's immune system attacks hair follicles and causes hair to fall out. Androgenetic (or androgenic) alopecia, on the other hand, is an inherited form of hair loss. Doesn't change: the underlying condition. Most of the causes (allergy, eczema, psoriasis) have inflammation and the over the counter shampoos are not anti-inflammatory. Frankly, the prescription ones are quite weak also. Usually oral medication is required. ...Read more
