Hard to say: Antibiotics are useless in treating cough unless there is a bacterial infection causing it. Some kids with simple viral bronchitis will cough hard for up to a month. Work with the kids doc to see what is going on. Don't assume that antibiotics are needed, although they could be. Sometimes they develop a sinus infection that triggers persistent cough after the initial issue has passed. ...Read more

May be viral: Most ear infections, up to 85%, are caused by viruses that won't respond to ab. There is also the possibility that his infection is due to a bacteria that's resistant to amoxil (amoxicillin).
When you say he has been on 3d of Amoxil (amoxicillin) are you counting the first day as the day you started the medication? If so then he has only had 2 days worth and it might be that you need to give amox more time. Good luck. ...Read more

Lung Resistance: Best bet will be to have lung function test (PFT), to be evaluated by lung doctor (pulmonologist). It will identify if you have any problem.
