I was diagnosed with kp in my urine c&s is it cureable I was prescribed bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) for 10 days I am panicking.
Take as prescribed: C&S (culture & sensitivity) results demonstrate what the specific bacterial infection is by 'growing' it in culture media and identifies it. In addition, the testing also determines what antibiotics the bacteria is 'sensitive' to, so that the correct medication can be used. If taken as prescribed, the infection should be 'cleared' after completion of the 10 days. ...Read more

Constant urge to urinate. Azo doesn't help. I've been on bactrim for 24 hrs now. Urine culture positive for nitrites and mixed flora?
Urine culture results: "Mixed flora. No significant pathogens isolated" what does this mean? Should I stop taking bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) or continue it?
If you started your: Bactrim, (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) you should finish the entire course. Culture results are not helpful, but if your symptoms are improving, you should not worry. I took 3 courses of bactrim in the last 2 months but the infection returns. I can't take cipro (ciprofloxacin) and nitrof didn't work. My urine tests vere negative. The urologist is treating me symptomatically. What should I do?
If the urine tests are negative or normal, then I would start to suspect something else and not "infection". Cystitis is a bladder inflammation that feels just like and infection and is a miserable problem. Interstitial cystitis would be a possibility.
But if you are saying your infection returns, then investigation into why would be next. ...Read more
I was prescribed bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) for symptoms of a uti, the urine test showed I did not have a uti, and urine was normal. Can I stop taking this medication?
I have been having symptoms of UTI for a couple weeks the doctor prescribed bactrim that didn't work so they took blood and a urine culture the urine came back with bacteria they explained to me that the bactrim maybe didn't work because of the typbacteri
Makes sense: There are many diff bacteria that can cause utis and the type you had was resisitant, but the culture and sensitivity that they did will tell you which type of antibiotic should work. I rarely use batrim as many bacteria are now resisitant to that one. I use Cipro (ciprofloxacin) - that usually works much better and u do not ahve to take it for as many days. ...Read more

Have a UTI and started Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim). My urine turned dark tonight. Is this an emergency issue or can I take it up with my doctor on Monday?
How do doctors decide what duration of bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) to use for an uncomplicated UTI without urine analysis? The duration ranges from 3-10 days.
Here are some. ..: Review of patient's clinical scenario at present and in the past + clinical reports from study/experience + commonsense/wisdom will deduce reasonable duration & timing of taking drugs like Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) for UTI. Thus far, clinical studies on treating UTI have showed: taking Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) longer than 3-5 days would not generate additional benefit. That is how the empiric care has come about. Best wish. .. ...Read more
I was prescribed doxycycline & metrodiazonole for PID but the doctor returned saying I had bacteria in my urine. Shouldn’t I be on Bactrim or another?
UTI treatment: The "bacteria in urine" problem might just be part of the PID. But if you do have a urinary tract infection as well, doxycycline usually is effective -- not usually the first choice treatment, but generally works well. Discuss with the doctor treating your PID. Good luck! ...Read more
Uti won't go away. Taken bactrim, then cipro, (ciprofloxacin) symptoms persist. Doc is doing urine culture. Do you think probiotic or d-mannose would help me?
May help, also try:
D-mannose is safe & effective for the 90% of uti's caused by e.Coli bacteria, so if you have a UTI caused by an e. Coli strain that is resistant to Bactrim & Cipro (ciprofloxacin) it will help.
It is wise to take probiotics to restore normal GI flora during & after taking antibiotics but it will not help your uti. You can try herbs like uva ursi & andrographis while awaiting culture results. ...Read more

I have uncomplicated UTI. Some bladder wall inflammation. Waiting to see urologist. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) makes me sick. Will amoxicillin work? Urine clear
Use Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) 2x for 5 days-UTI. Last dose. Urine checked today, no infection but still have some lower back & pelvic pain. How long until I get relief?
Needs evaluation: If your pain were caused by a bladder infection then it should be better by now. There are two possibilities. 1. Your infection was not sensitive to the antibiotic Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim). This seems unlikely since your urine test today was normal 2. Your pain is caused by something else. This is more likely. Follow up with your physician is warranted. ...Read more
