Ear: It'd be unusual ton use bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) for ear infections unless you have an allergy to penicillin. Always a risk for c did with antibiotics. Make sure you find out why you're being told to take bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim). Definitely take a probiotic ...Read more

Repeat infections: Usually when there is a repeat infection in a patient and the previous round of antibiotics was chosen merely as a matter of "probability"....the next chosen round should be done by way of studies and culture if possible. If there is any drainage or other data available to more definitely peg the bug then, that should be the next plan otherwise, resistance may develop and healing will be delayed. ...Read more

Hi: severe burning and itching with scabs and dandruff on scalp: clinic prescribed Bactrim Sulfameth/Tmp oral for infection but anything OTC for head?

Just a: thought but you should consider seeing a Dermatologist...what you have sounds like it may be more "serious" than Dandruff..eg PSORIASIS,,,suggest you try an anti-Psoriasis SHAMPOO ..ask your Pharmacist for recommendation....

Hope this is helpful

Which antibiotic would be best for a sinus infection? I have bactrim ds and amoxicillin 500mg

Which antibiotic would be best for a sinus infection? I have bactrim ds and amoxicillin 500mg

Neither: Actually, the most recent advice from the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) is that antibiotics be restricted for simple sinusitis. There are some criteria to start antibiotics, such as symptoms greater than 10 days, high severity, etc. It's best however to have all this guided by a physician. You should be monitored while on therapy - I wouldn't just take what you have on the shelf. ...Read more

Not effective: Antibiotics treat different types of bacteria. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) does not kill many of the bacteria that can cause dental abscess. It would be better to call your dentist for a prescription. This way you take the risks of side effects but it probably not work. ...Read more

I have a sinus infection and just started Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) DS yesterday. I've been reading all the negative reviews. Worried about side effects. Is Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ok?

I have a sinus infection and just started Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) DS yesterday. I've been reading all the negative reviews. Worried about side effects. Is Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ok?

Usually no problem: It indeed can be alarming to read lists of drug side effects. But for Bactrim, (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) most of them are rare and few are permanent or dangerous. The vast majority of people who take it have no probem at all. And your doctor wouldn't have prescribed it unless she believed it would be more helpful than harmful. But recheck with the doctor if you remain concerned. ...Read more

If you still: have urinary symptoms despite a course of Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) DS, you might have persistent uti with resistant bacteria. Get back to your doctor. Insomnia is probably not related to Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim). ...Read more

Can i take Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ds for tinea bacterial infection?

Kinda, sorta: Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) DS is brand name for sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. As such, it is not used to treat tinea or fungal infections, which require antifungals, some of which are available over-the-counter (while no antibiotics are, at least not in the States). With that said, some fungal infections can become superinfected by bacteria & thus require Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) DS ...Read more

Can you take bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ds for ingrown toenail infections?

Can you take bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ds for ingrown toenail infections?

Abx for ingrown nail: Yes, Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) (= trimetrhoprim-sulfamethoxazole) is an antibiotic, and can be taken for ingrown toenail infections. Usually, you would need to see a foot specialist/ podiatrist for treatment of the ingrown nail, but taking the antibiotic while waiting for an appointment makes a lot of sense. ...Read more

Can kidney infection cause bloating and constipation? How long does that last? I've been taking bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ds for 2 1/2 days now.

The Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim): Bloating is a common side effect of antibiotics, including Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim). Constipation, diarrhea or both (alternating) are also possible. The duration of this effect is difficult to predict. The most likely mechanism is the antibiotic effect of normal gut microbiota and subsequent recolonization. ...Read more
