Ear: It'd be unusual ton use bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) for ear infections unless you have an allergy to penicillin. Always a risk for c did with antibiotics. Repeat infections: Usually when there is a repeat infection in a patient and the previous round of antibiotics was chosen merely as a matter of "probability"....the next chosen round should be done by way of studies and culture if possible. If there is any drainage or other data available to more definitely peg the bug then, that should be the next plan otherwise, resistance may develop and healing will be delayed. ...Read more

Neither: Actually, the most recent advice from the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) is that antibiotics be restricted for simple sinusitis. There are some criteria to start antibiotics, such as symptoms greater than 10 days, high severity, etc. It's best however to have all this guided by a physician. You should be monitored while on therapy - I wouldn't just take what you have on the shelf. ...Read more

I have bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ds 800-160 how many should I take for a tooth infection. I know this is not usually taken 4 this type of infectionbut its all i have.
Not effective: Antibiotics treat different types of bacteria. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) does not kill many of the bacteria that can cause dental abscess. It would be better to call your dentist for a prescription. This way you take the risks of side effects but it probably not work. ...Read more
I am taking an antibiotic called bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ds for a infection in my blood. I am supposed to take it twice daily, could i just take it every 12 hours?
I have a sinus infection and just started Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) DS yesterday. I've been reading all the negative reviews. Worried about side effects. Is Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ok?
Usually no problem: It indeed can be alarming to read lists of drug side effects. But for Bactrim, (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) most of them are rare and few are permanent or dangerous. The vast majority of people who take it have no probem at all. And your doctor wouldn't have prescribed it unless she believed it would be more helpful than harmful. But recheck with the doctor if you remain concerned. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

After taking Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ds twice daily for five days, last pill was this a.m. Still have burning and pain from a bladder infection. Terrible insomnia too?
Kinda, sorta: Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) DS is brand name for sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. As such, it is not used to treat tinea or fungal infections, which require antifungals, some of which are available over-the-counter (while no antibiotics are, at least not in the States). With that said, some fungal infections can become superinfected by bacteria & thus require Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) DS ...Read more

The Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim): Bloating is a common side effect of antibiotics, including Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim). Constipation, diarrhea or both (alternating) are also possible. The duration of this effect is difficult to predict.
