Severe lower back pain and tightening that relieves after walking but resumes after sitting or lying down for a few minutes or more.

Muscle Spasm: Pain with sitting typically stresses the disk in the lumbar spine (lower back). This is often relieved with standing or sitting as there is less pressure on the disk in these positions. Younger patients will often have only back symptoms without sciatica if they have a disc herniation. If your pain is truly severe and not getting better, that deserves an evaluation by a spine or pain specialist. ...Read more

Lower back pain over buttocks. Worse when lying down or sitting. What could it be? Is ice or heat better? Don't remember doing anything to cause it

You could also have some stenosis (just means narrowing) irritating (pinching) a nerve causing the buttock pain. If it doesn't get better on its own after a week or two consider doing some physical therapy to strengthen your core and back. ...Read more
