Lower back pain around spine for 2wks. Pain eases off a little at times then it returns. Not taken OTC or prescription pain med. What can this be? Treatment?

Pinched Nerve/Muscle: Most times back pain that is sudden onset will resolve. You should use anti-inflammatory meds like ibuprofen, aleve around the clock and even tylenol (acetaminophen) to help. If this does not resolve you should see doctor for a muscle relaxant as well. If it still does not resolve, i would recommend seeing a spine specialist for a full evaluation and testing. You may need to get an MRI to see inside the back. ...Read more

Just got X-ray for back pain and spine tenderness, notes were 'lumbarization' and 'mild facet hypertrophy'. Could this explain the pain and tenderness?

Just got X-ray for back pain and spine tenderness, notes were 'lumbarization' and 'mild facet hypertrophy'. Could this explain the pain and tenderness?

Likely: Lumbarization is an X-ray finding indicating that the top of the sacrum actually appears t be part of the lumbar spine. This is a congenital defect that can limit mobility and cause chronic pain. Facet hypertrophy can be an indicator of excessive force/strain on that area of spine. Follow up with your doctor for further evaluation and treatment. Take Care! ...Read more

Hurt rib 3d ago box. Got X-r, nothing, ER said maybe crack. Back pain near spine lowest ribs, yesterday receded for 6 hours after popping sound, now pain again started during laying in bed. Is it dislocated, treatment?

Yes: what you are describing is pretty "classical" for subluxing (partial dislocating) ribs at the posterior cartilage connection with your spine..
UNFORTUNATELY you cannot "splint" your chest (you need to breathe / cough.. If the pain is severe an injection may be helpful!
Consult your PCP (Primary Care Provider =) for hands on diagnosis and treatment!

Hope this helps

I am a 29 year old female and have been a smoker for 7 years. I have mid back pain near spine for months. I have had chest X-ray and 2 mri's, both clear. I am still scared itslung cancer. What should I do?

consider chest CT: You need to talk to your doctor about ways to stop smoking, which is a known cause of lung cancer. That's the 1st thing you need to do. A negative chest x-ray does not mean your lungs are free of disease. Assuming the mris were of your spine, consider an optimized screening chest ct to determine the status of your lungs and reduce your anxiety. ...Read more
