Hello docs! Can you tell me what could be the cause of my dull achy with sharp, painful spasms back pain?
Muscle spasm: It is difficult to tell without more history or physical exam, but if it is not radiating anywhere, just right in the same spot in your low back, then it is probably a strain or spasm of certain paraspinal muscles or occasionally hip flexors that attach to your lumbar spine. If you have any other symptoms, then it could be other things. Also, ever had kidney stones before, sometimes can feel same. ...Read more
After taking a long bike ride yesterday, I had dull achy chest pain and back pain and its not going away. What are possible causes?
If the pain has been constant then more than likely you are having muscle aches. Poor positioning on the bike can cause this, this is amplified by long rides. Also not being in shape enough to complete the long ride without feeling beat could also be a part.
If the pain has been coming and going away completely, and gets worse with activity then see a doctor today. ...Read more

I have extremely high nitrates in my urine but the culture is negative for infection it's been 8 wks and I have dull achy back pain. Any ideas?
Why do I get a sharp lower back pain when laying in bed? It then subsides to a dull ache. Same pain when standing for long periods.
Likely muscular: Sounds like muscle pain. In young patients this can indicate conditions such as transitional vertebra or spondylolysis. Other causes include ovarian cysts, disc herniation etc. Majority of folks with symptoms you describe will get better over time (without any specific treatments). Ibuprofen (motrin/advil etc) 400mg every 8 hours for 5-7 days may help. Have you tried a firm mattress? ...Read more

Not necessarily: A dull aching lower pelvic pain and lower back pain can be due to the growing uterus, muscle strain, and several other things including a UTI. Go to an urgent care: Perhaps you can call your doctor's office back and let them know that you have an acute problem that really cannot wait two weeks. Some offices do offer same-day appointments but you have to let them know that there is a problem. I don't think your doctor would want you to remain in pain, with a migraine, and with an unknown discharge for that long without taking a look at you. If not, urgent care. ...Read more
