Thoracic Spine: Thoracic spine areas will allow nerves to exit out of the spine and wrap around into the chest wall and abdomen. So herniated discs there can cause pain into these areas as well. Rib dislocation: Could be a rib dislocation or possibly costochondritis (inflammation of where the ribs and cartilage meet). I would recommend seeing a osteopathic physician to see if they can correct the rib issue. Many times they can place the rib back in proper alignment. Make sure you see a do that does manipulation as their main practice, they are the best. ...Read more

This : This pain could be from a cardiac cause, such as heart pain. Cardiac pain is usually worse with activity, is more common in patients with cardiovascular risk factors such as high cholesterol, smoking, or hypertension. Lung causes such as pleurisy or blood clot are a possibility but then usually the pain is worse with deep breathing. Abdominal causes such as pancreatitis or gallstones could also cause upper abdominal/chest pain. If your pain has persisted, if you have nausea/vomiting, fever, or the symptoms stated above then please go to the er. ...Read more

Go to your md to clarify. ...Read more

Chest pain: I would never say that the possibility of cancer in a smoker should be dismissed. If the pain doesn't resolve then see your dr. I'm not sure what your smoking history was. If the pain continues you should get it evaluated. If you're coughing up any blood then see a physician soon. ...Read more

Average: What you are describing does not raise specific concern for lung cancer and points more to chest wall irritation which can be from muscle strain, sometimes viral infection or exposure to inhaled irritants. Smoking is the major risk factor for lung cancer, and anyone over the age of 55 who has been smoking for at least 30 years (varies by amount) benefits from routine lung cancer screening ...Read more
