Lumbar radiculopathy: Nerve irritation caused by damage to the discs between the vertebrae. Damage to the disc occurs because of degeneration ("wear and tear") of the outer ring of the disc, traumatic injury, or both. The central softer portion of the disc can rupture (herniate) through the outer ring of the disc and abut the spinal cord or its nerves as they exit the bony spinal column.

Sciatica: The most common cause for this symptom (called Sciatica) is the compression of one or more roots of the sciatic nerve, which is the largest nerve in the body in length and width. A herniated or severely protruded lumbar disc is the most common cause for sciatica, but there are several other causes. The usual treatment is medication. For more information go to http://abt. Left leg pain moves from ankle to chalf and back of thigh hurts when sitting down and hurts to walk some when walk more pain goes away I think I twisted it why its hurting no swelling no redness?

Flexibility Issue: There are 2 reasonably unique muscles in the lower body- the hamstrings and calves (gastrocnemius). What makes them unique is that these two muscles cross 2 major joints, which makes them hard to keep stretched out. When we sit, these 2 muscles tighten. Then, when we stand to walk, we are too tight to be comfortably upright. You have got to stay loose throughout the day. Stretch 3-5x each day. ...Read more

L5-S1: L5-s1 disks can cause severe sciatic leg pain. I would recommend consultation with a spine surgeon if you have failed 3 steroid injections. Leg pain secondary to herniated disk usually responds well to surgery. There are many surgical options including traditional and minimally invasive surgery. I would recommend looking for a surgeon who is experienced in endosocpic minimally invasive surgery. Endoscopic treatment is not always an option, but it is worth exploring due to less tissue damage, quicker discharge and recovery and less post operative pain. Please see my health guide on disk herniations and sciatica for more information. Good luck! ...Read more
