Neosporin with vs without bacitracin zinc, what's the difference?

Neosporin with vs without bacitracin zinc, what's the difference?

NONE: Both worthless. Application to wounds, burns, surgery, or anything does not prevent or cure infections. They are among the most common agents that people are allergic to. They cross-react, so allergy to one often means allergy to the other. They often interfere with wound healing. Their use contributes to emerging antibiotic- resistant bacteria. Each has been "allergen of the year" in different ye ...Read more

What are the differences between Neosporin with or without bacitracin zinc?

None: They are both useless and sometimes harmful. Throw them away. Why are there two kinds of neosporin? One with bacitracin zinc and one without?

Antibiotic OTC s: There are essentially three common OTC antibiotic ointments. First is Bacitracin. Second is Polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin) which is Bacitracin plus Polymyxin B. Neosporin, aka "Triple antibiotic" ointment is Bacitracin + Polymyxin B + Neomycin. Many people (perhaps 1 in 5) are allergic to Neomycin, therefore many dermatologists recommend other options. Aquaphor is a common choice and has no antibiotic in it. ...Read more

I am with stye. Can I use bacitracin zinc + neomycin sulfate + polymyxin b sulfate? Thank you!

I am with stye. Can I use bacitracin zinc + neomycin sulfate + polymyxin b sulfate? Thank you!

It wont help or hurt: "Styes" is a layman's term for blocked oil glands in the eyelid. Most all will resolve completely with time and warm compresses. If they do not resolve in a reasonable period, an ophthalmologist can easily incise and drain them leading to quick resolution. This triple antibiotic should not hurt anything(if not allergic), but won't help either as these are not bacterial in origin. ...Read more

Got my hair relaxed yesterday & I got a quater sized ozzing burn on my ear. Tried bacitracin zinc but it really hurts and itches. How long til it heals?

Irritant dermatitis.: I assume the hairdresser spilled some relaxing chemical on your ear — which gives you an idea of how strong that stuff is! Bacitracin is not going to get it done; a steroid cream, if you have one, might help somewhat, and hold a washcloth soaked in warm water to the area in the evening, perhaps while you're watching tv. If it's not markedly better in a few days, let your doctor take a look. ...Read more

I've been applying polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin) to my facial cystic acne which hasn't healed in months. Within days my face has cleared! Is this ok? Negative effects?

It's OK, but...: There are better topical antibiotics than polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin) to use on cystic acne. I'm glad for you that it has worked initially. My bigger concern, though, is that it won't work for very long. That particular antibiotic combination may lead to resistance in the bacteria present in your pores, and in a month or two not be effective anymore. There are better topical antibiotics that lessen this chance. ...Read more
