It's been traditionally used in minor skin wounds: skin infections, burns, bee stings, sunburn, warts, etc. Most research comes from animal studies. http://tinyurl.com/lapg2kq. ...Read more

Does cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) cream help poison ivy?

Does cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) cream help poison ivy?

Probably so: Cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) is a combination of a steroid and a topical antibiotic. The steroid is probably the component that is doing the most for your reaction. I would avoid the topical antibiotic unless there is truly a bacterial infection that needs to be treated. The antibiotic portion carries the risk of an allergic reaction and can confound the clinical picture. ...Read more

I am with stye. Can I use bacitracin zinc + neomycin sulfate + polymyxin b sulfate? Thank you!

I am with stye. Can I use bacitracin zinc + neomycin sulfate + polymyxin b sulfate? Thank you!

It wont help or hurt: "styes" is a layman's term for blocked oil glands in the eyelid. Most all will resolve completely with time and warm compresses. If they do not resolve in a reasonable period of time, an ophthalmologist can easily incise and drain them leading to quick resolution. This triple antibiotic should not hurt anything(if not allergic), but won't help either as these are not bacterial in origin. ...Read more

Should I take my ring out clean everything put polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin) on the wound and then put the ring back in?

If your Piercing has: become infected, you want to take it out and see a doctor, hospital ED, or walk in clinic to have the infection treated. Allow the piercing to close and give the site a few months to heal completely before having the piercing redone. If you try to continue the ring will never allow the infection to clear and you risk spreading infection and the scarring and sloughing of the tissue in that area. ...Read more

If it is a more severe second degree burn or a large area, best you see a doc for prescription medicine like silvadene, (silver sulfadiazine) which is better coverage for bacteria that are likely to complicate burn healing.
