Bacitracin For Burned Skin
I put local anesthetic and polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin) on the site of a burn. After a day, now the pain is gone but there are bubbles on my skin. What should I do?
First degree?: It does not matter how the burn occurred, but the depth and magnitude of the burn. If it's a first degree burn, polysporin is fine. If it is a more severe second degree burn or a large area, best you see a doc for prescription medicine like silvadene, (silver sulfadiazine) which is better coverage for bacteria that are likely to complicate burn healing. Keep areas clean, but don't overdo it and cause more irritation. Read more
I have been putting polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin) on a burn for the past 3-4 days. Just realized it expired in 2007/2008. Is this in any way dangerous?
For a second-degree: ... Burn, keep the wound clean and apply a topical antibiotic ointment (e.g., polysporin, (bacitracin and polymyxin) bacitracin, neosporin, triple-antibiotic ointment). Also be sure to get good nutrition so that you have all the necessary building blocks for wound healing. If the wound is not healing soon (i.e., in 1 to 2 weeks), or if it seems like it is getting infected, seek formal medical attention. Read more
We started using bacitracin already for a second degree burn with blisters. I was told to use it. Is it ok?
NO!!!!!: Bacitracin does not prevent infections. Bacitracin is a common sensitizer. It is one of the most common causes of allergic reactions. Usually the reactions just cause local itch, redness, swelling, poor wound healing. A few deaths have occurred. Treat it with water irrigation and vaseline or Aquaphor. Read more
If some very hot (almost burning) water got into my vagina during a shower, what damage or harm can it cause? Can I use Bacitracin Zinc to treat it?
During a shower today, some very hot water got into my vagina and caused some burning sensation. Can it cause cancer and can I use Bacitracin ointment?
Friction burn in the fold between inner & outer labia. Not sure how to treat. Bandaid won't stick. Maybe wedging gauze with bacitracin on it?
Not bacitracin: Not bandaid. Not gauze. Use vaseline or Aquaphor several times a day. If not healed in a few days, see GYN. Read more
Large 2nd degree burn on my chest from boiling water. I've been keeping it covered with polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin) and gauze. How long should I keep it covered?
Ointment is the. ..: Worst thing to put on a burn. It keeps the heat and damage in. Silvadine cream would be much better. Read more
I have 2nd degree burn on my butt & there's a open cut from a group of small blister (3"x3"). Are povidone iodine/bacitracin ointment good for it?
They aren't bad: You'll want to watch carefully for signs of infection, there are a lot of germs in that area. Gauze covering it is probably one of the most important things. Read more
I tried to pop a pimple with hot water and salt (epsom salt). I'm left with a rather large patch/burn on my chin. I put bacitracin on it and a bandage. Any ways to get rid of this as fast as possible?
See your doctor!: If it is a burn, you may need wound care since your face can be disfigured. More worrisome is that the burn is actually an infection or an abscess caused by bacteria such as strept or staph. If not treated, the infection can quickly get worse. The doctor can examine to determine you will need just antibiotics or additional interventions. Read more

Got my hair relaxed yesterday & I got a quater sized ozzing burn on my ear. Tried bacitracin zinc but it really hurts and itches. How long til it heals?
Irritant dermatitis.: I assume the hairdresser spilled some of the relaxing chemical on your ear - which gives you an idea of how strong that stuff is! Bacitracin is not going to get it done; a steroid cream, if you have one, might help somewhat, and hold a washcloth soaked in warm water to the area in the evening, perhaps while you're watching tv. If it's not markedly better in a few days, let your doctor take a look. Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Yes: But Bacitracin has not been shown to be of any value on any kind of wound. In experimental studies, those using vaseline or aquaphor healed the same or better than Bacitracin when used on surgical wounds. Bacithacin is a common sensitizer. A few years ago it was named the allergen of the year. Same for neosporin and triple antibiotic. Wash the cut, then keep it lubricated. Read more
Popped blackhead & washed then put bacitracin on it so it wouldn't scarwhite head formed I popped then raised scab formed popped clear liquidwhat2do?
Skin abscess: In teenagers, it is not uncommon to suffer from acne. This can be related to a variety of normal growth issues, and also to physical activity, hygiene, and topical products used. I would typically not encourage multiple popping of blackheads or skin abscesses. The fingers could contaminate the wound further with other bacteria and cause a worse infection. Best to use soap and water regularly. Read more
Can mupirocin calcium cream 2% be substituted for Bacitracin for skin irritations due to disposable undergarments?
Short term use: If you have minor skin irritation it is ok to use topical antimicrobials. However I would not recommend using it indefinitely as it may cause antibiotic resistance. It is important for you to avoid the undergarments that caused the irritation and prevent it from happening chronically. Read more
