Not advised: Your baby may have an upper respiratory or lower respiratory infection. I would advise, baby nasal saline and gently removing the nasal mucus and checking the temperature. If there is a temperature of 100.4 or more, please see your physician. T If there is wheezing or a hacking cough, vomiting or any respiratory distress, please seek medical care from you pediatrician. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

The respiratory tract includes the nose and sinuses, throat, voice box, bronchi, and lungs. Phlegm is mucus that may contain bacteria, viruses, respiratory surface cells, and inflammatory cells. Normal mucus is not phlegm, but a protective layer secreted ...Read more
My 6 month old baby always has a cough with phlegm he's on losec (omeprazole) for silent reflux is this normal to have phlegm and a cough only during night sleep?
Sick 1x a month. cough, cold, yellow phlegm. Daily probiotics, vitamin C 2000 mg, exercise 2x a wk, sleep, eat well. Hyperthyroidism now normal. Help.
Wife has bad chest cold. Coughing yellow phlegm. Sore from coughing, lack of sleep. Takes citalopram and clonazepam for panic attacks, zyrtec (cetirizine) for allergies. What to take now and when to get help. ?
Symptomatic care: Most colds go away on their own and do not need medications, even with phlegm. Fluids, rest, tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain can all be helpful. Sometimes antihistamines like zyrtec can make getting secretions loose harder. Some folks feel vitamin c helps, and it likely will not hurt, but no great studies exist. Zinc lozenges may have a role. Get help for worsening shortness of breath, fever, lasts 7-20 days. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

Had cold/flu symptoms for 8 days, fever and productive cough stopping sleep for last 3. when should I go to the dr? how to stay asleep?
Had cold/acute a week ago/used afrin (oxymetazoline). Now v stuffed early ams/cant sleep/afrin (oxymetazoline) no help. Sitting makes better. New productive cough. Help w/breathing?
Stop Afrin (oxymetazoline): After 3 days afrin tends to make post nasal drip worse. Your cough sounds like post nasal drip plus reflux, for which a decongestant plus nasal steroids and nasal washes usually works well. However, pertussis and a few other things should be checked, so get in and get seen. ...Read more

Why do I constantly feel like I have phlegm in my throat? There is always mucus in my nose and throat and sometimes it affects my sleep.
Phlegm: You and 31 million other persons have this. Fancy name is mucociliary clearance - look that up. Your nasal cilia are not doing their job of moving bacteria out of the nose/sinuses. try Humming - low tone like "ooommmm" and songs Drink green tea warm, not too hot Increase fluid intake if not clear, consider pulsed nasal/sinus irrigation to restore good cilia movement. Stopped smoking, chesty cough spasms, making me physically sick, can't sleep, clear phlegm. 2 weeks now. Will anti biotics work?
I've been coughing up a lot of phlegm and it keeps me up, is it ok to take robitussin and nywuil together to sleep better at night?
While not identical: there are a number of ingredients that would be duplicated if you used both of these products together. Some of these might be dextromethorphan, acetaminophen, doxylamine, pseudoephedrine, etc. So you would risk taking too much of these ingredients. I would stick to one product and follow package directions closely. Stay well:) ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Is it possible to spit brownish phlegm in the morning because of gingivitis? I clench my teeth when I sleep and I have a cavity that hurts some
Not likely: Phlegm is usually a description of thick mucus that comes from the respiratory tract. Associating this to a dental condition wouldn't be likely. Smoking, sinus infection, or upper airway inflammation would be more likely. The cavity can be fixed, the gums can be treated, and an appliance can be made to alleviate the clenching. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
How to get rid of phlegm in toddler? My 2 yr old son has constant phelgm and severe runny nose and cough. Please help us. No sleep in our house.
He may need abx: If your son has been sick for only a few days it's probably a viral upper respiratory tract infection there's not much to do about it. If he's been sick for a week or more most likely he now has a bacterial infection and should be on antibiotics. Contact your pediatrician and have him evaluated and hopefully placed on a course of antibiotics for at least 10 days. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
