Sleep disturbance: Children's brains remain very active during their sleep cycles and it is theorized that when in dreams they unaware it's a dream - more real to them. Many children can have variations of these night time awakenings and often appear awake when they are not. Stressful for the adult but most children wake up refreshed. Doesn't sound abnorm: Babies as they grow become very active; arching is part of their repertoire of movement. You may wish to take some videos of the behaviors to review with your pediatrician. Four month visit should be coming up. ...Read more

Change moms diet: If she is being exclusively breastfed, look at your diet. The mothers diet can cause the baby to sometimes be gassy. Avoid starches, beans and other gassy veggies. If you are supplementing with formula she may be having some intolerance to the formula. She may need to be changed to a different formula. For formula changes you should see your pediatrician or a peds GI doctor. ...Read more

Her doc needs to gather a volume of data, both historical and possibly by lab (blood/stool). That's where you should begin.
